Scent work

Well, I've noticed that one of the things Shelby does is when she gets her nose on a scent trail, its really hard to get her off it. What types of scent work are there? The only two I can think of is tracking and search and rescue. Anyone have any links to scent work that pitbulls can/will do? Thanks!

When my husband was growing up, they had a dog, I think it was the mutant austrailian shepherd (perfect proportions, but 2 sizes too big) that kept getting out of their yard. They had a 6-foot wooden stockade fence. They found holes in the fence but didn't think it could be the dog. They finally saw...

I'm soooo jealous of you two!

I wanna be in Southern VA! Instead I'm in El Paso, TX for the next 15 years. Where are ya'll located? My family has land just NE of Danville.

GAH!

Where is the fast forward button!

forward somersaults

Okay, Shelby started a new thing today. I was wondering if any other pits did this, or if we just have a goober of a dog. We were playing fetch with *her* sock (old sock knotted in the middle), and whenever she'd bring it back to me, she'd put her head down, and roll foward onto her back. I suppose ...

Thanks for the idea of the bully sticks! I got one today and she loves it! I appreciate the responses on potty training. This is my first puppy in over 10 years, and my mother always took a rather casual attitude towards housetraining, so I want to make sure I do it *right* this time. Its difficult ...

Logan's story is soooo sad. :crybaby: I really feel for that owner. At least she did the right thing and didn't drop him off at a kill shelter.

I don't really understand how this effects housebreaking though? Just keep her on a regular schedule, pick up her water at night, zipping her out more often than not (regardless of her sniffing around) and she will housebreak. I foster pups so I'm a pro at this roflmao Well, all the housetraining a...

Was wondering what your definition of unsupervised is? If you are out doing yardwork, and the dog is out with you, is that considered unsupervised? Do we have to have our total attention on the dog at all times? We have a fenced in yard, but Shelby's never been off leash, cause she is small enough t...

A different way to induce her to play is to get on all fours, then bow down. That's dog speak for "lets play!"

housetraining and chewing problem

We some specific problems that I'm not sure how to search for, so please forgive me if this has already been discussed. Our new baby is about 4mos old. Which means she's teething. That's actually affecting our ability to housetrain her, because she's constantly sniffing for something to chew on, so ...
