Re: raw pork liver

Not to contradict MissKiwi (who is current on knowing her medical stuff  ) - but I DO feed raw pork and it's organs with minimal concerns - had to think a minute about feeding the brain, tho... eww-LOL (no pun intended) I'm not super worried about AMERICAN-grown pork but I also can't alwa...

Re: raw pork liver

If your dog is sued to chicken liver, pork will be just fine. Too much can (and most of the time will) cause diarrhea so don't give them more than they are used to eating.

Re: Joint supplements homework, please?

Char - Our vet just recommended this to us as well. Franny's first day was Friday PM. We'll have to compare results. He also liked what we were doing nutritionally and her weight/exercise schedule. Maybe because we're going to the same place? ;) I have been meaning to thank you for the recommendati...

Re: Joint supplements homework, please?

At the recommendation of our acupuncturist, we are trying a different supplement for Molly right now. It is formulated for humans but this company does make veterinary supplements as well for small animals (dogs/cats) and horses. Re: Joint supplements homework, please?

Question: Scarlett is eating Diamond Naturals dry food and it says on the bag that it has Glucosamine and Chondroitin in it. Should we still be giving her a supplement beyond what she is getting in this? Yes. That's more like a marketing ploy to make people feel better. The amount and bioavailablit...

Re: Plastic crates?

It only says that you should stay out of the SF Bay Area and the greater San Diego area so you aren't in our Craigslist crate buying territory ;) We stopped by Petco the other day and the new rebranded Furraris look nice (abet expensive!) I like that they've added the venting hols in the back like a...

Re: Plastic crates?

You're right (and just lie us in this regard) that a vintage Vari or Sky are the best plastic crates around!

I think with those options I'd go with a Furrari. Our 2 are in the van but I don' think they have any good edges to start chewing on and the doors are very sturdy!!

Re: Did we over do it with the exercise? Pittie in pain!

Oh, ouch middle aged lady! We too have an 8 year old girl that loves to go. Swimming's acutally a great low impact exercise and we have been working with our girl to get her to have a more enjoyable time swimming. Here's how we're keeping her healthy: 1) Nice quality joint supplements. The amount in...

Re: Heart Murmer questions

Our oldest has a grade 2-3 murmur due to an arotic stenosis. She's also a very popular flyball dog. Our cardiologist prescribed some supplements, keeping her thin and regular strenuous exercise.

I'm sure that your cardiologist will be able to answer all of your questions! good luck.

Re: Any Ideas

When people tell me that their dog isn't motivated by food I always ask the following: What, how much and how often do you feed? What kind and size of treats are you using? I find a truly not food motivated dog to be really, really rare. More often than not, the dog is simply not hungry or the treat...

I don't require them to "walk it out" but we do have some quiet time in the yard afterward. I like to see any heavy respiration back down and have them enjoy fee time in the yard.

The ice/ice cream/yogurt thing has be totally scratching my head. I've never heard that one at all.

Re: Crates/cages - What size should they be?

When crate training, if you get a crate too large, the dog will use part of it as a bathroom. This is why you get one the correct size, or a big one with the divider panel that you can gradually increase the size of so the dog learns it's their "home" not an appropriate bathroom place. No...

Re: What's The Right Sport For My Dog?

While there are loose dogs in my chosen sport, Flyball, you are right in the area of a very bull breed savvy team. Phoenix Fuzion has a variety of bull breeds and bull breed mixes and terriers. http://www.phoenixfuzionflyball.com/Meet_The_Pups.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'd ...
