Re: healthy skin shiny coat question

You should also brush the dog regularly. Not only does it collect all that loose fur but it's good to stimulate their skin.

The Kong Zoom Groom is awesome!

I also feed Salmon oil, kelp and coconut oil for good skin and coat.

Re: Switching from BARF to Dry diet - suggestions on food

For many raw fed dogs, it's not the protein but the high level of dry, processed protein.

When I've needed to have kibble on hand, I like Fromm, Go! and Arcana. When money's been tight Taste of the Wild is a good price.

Re: The Cost of Feeding Raw?

Thank you everyone for your replies! Now to look into a freezer. Before you buy a freezer, I'd really suggest doing some research on pricing in your area. It can really, really depend on that if you can afford it. Since you are young, live with your grandma, etc - it could become a financial burden...

Re: The Cost of Feeding Raw?

Average costs depends on how much meat costs in your area! My suggestion is to research grocery stores in the area, any co-ops, ask around, etc and she what prices per pound generally are. Then multiple your dogs' weight by .02 for their daily amount. Get the total amount for ALL dogs that you need ...

I could be wrong but it should NOT smell. She could have an infection in there.

You need to go to the vet ASAP.

Re: Travel and raw...

We usually also keep the dog cooler in the bathtub! So that way we can close the door against poking noses. And it does take a few back and forth trips with the ice bucket but we try to use the motel's ice if at all possible! We've been traveling with raw for over 6 years at this point and I've neve...

I wrote a blog post a while back about a short trip we made and how I pack food for it: http://blog.carnivorecafe.net/post/2011/11/07/Field-Trip%3A-Madera-Flyball" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; What I do depends on our resources. I always call ahead and ask if there is a fridge. If t...

Definitely record it!

Also, if you think it's happening during fetch - it your vet has the space then go play fetch her with at the vets and try to get it to happen.

Glad you took him in for a panel. Hoping that he's just being nutnut button again and it's not something medical.

Re: Melatonin

My wife gets really crazy dreams on Melitonin and I believe you can try reducing your dose by about 1/2. If it continues, you can try reducing your dose again or taking some time off of it and coming back in a week with a lowered dose.

Re: Yearly checkup, registration...am I paying too much $$$?

Well you are getting "all the regular vaccines" including what sounds like a 1 year rabies - so that says to me that you are getting and paying for things you might not need. IF you was to continue DH2PP, you can go to a 3 year cycle. Same thing for Rabies. It's more complicated but I sugg...
