Re: Feeding Raw

Tripe is a huge staple in my dogs diet, they get it every day aside of the normal meal, I forgot to add that. You can never have enough tripe in stock. yup. we keep a stash of the green tripe too. I didn't used to feed veggies until Pete came along. He had a lot of anger issues and almost hyperacti...

Re: Feeding Raw

Those of you that give a Co Q10 supplement... care to elaborate on that a bit? What is Co Q10? How much do you give? How long have you been giving it and what benefits do you see from giving it? Co Q-10 is not a vitamin but acts similarly. Our vet recommended it for Franny's heart condition and aft...

Re: Feeding Raw

We feed twice a day. I have a smallish chest freezer and 1/2 to 3/4 of the human freezer. My wife works at a meat company so things vary a lot depending on what she can get us from inventory. About every other month we make and prep a ground product that we use for breakfast: ground meat and fat of ...

Check out Dr. Pitcarin's recommended Mange treatments. That's what I've used for localized stuff.

He came to us at 10/11 weeks and his first meal with us was beef heart. I do keep a bag of kibble around of "oh crap" moments and he eats kibble when he stays with my mom maybe once a year so I wouldn't say that he's never had kibble.

Re: Natural Food vs. "Major" Brand vs. Raw

Science Diet has been good on them so far and our previous dogs but I want them to not only live longer but be healthier further into their older years if that makes sense. I think you'll see a lot of nice changes once you get them on a better kibble. Poops are a ton smaller. For example, I have us...

Re: Hind leg(s) sore, limping after exercise. Need advice

Vet - first and foremost. Ask to check hips and knees for ligament tears and make sure his hips sockets are decent. Also don't wait on losing those extra pounds. They are affecting him, whether you see it or not. Then also add in fish body oil and something like Glyco-Flex 3 to his diet. IF HE IS IN...

Re: Natural Food vs. "Major" Brand vs. Raw

However, the benefits are from whole ingredients and an overall lack of modern processing, not enzymes or nature or voodoo. Thats all I was trying to add to the conversation, and I apologize it took me 3 posts to say it. Totally. It's the same thing as watching how long it takes for a twinkie to ro...

Re: Natural Food vs. "Major" Brand vs. Raw

My grandparents didn't really fed kibble to their dog. Instead my grandma made stew or stir-fry type dishes of the leftover meats, fruits and veggies along with any leftover grains like rice or oatmeal. I believe that this was a cultural heritage of the dogs truly eating the leftovers from the fami...

Re: Natural Food vs. "Major" Brand vs. Raw

You also don't want to forget that there is several thousand years of selective breeding for animals who thrive on human "leftovers". And those leftovers were not processed or frozen or full of fake colors like what many people eat these days. In addition, the leftovers were the family's ...

Re: Natural Food vs. "Major" Brand vs. Raw

If you search for "raw" or "barf" in the Health section of PBF you'll get a number of good threads about the subject. I've posted in a lot of them about my raw feeding experiences. There's an insanely long BARF 101 thread but I'd suggest going back a few pages in it and reading i...

That one of those products whose ingredients I feed in other ways, so no.

High impact activities aren't good for growing bones, and very hard on the joints.

Lacey is almost a year old (July 10 is her birthday).

She should be fine then! Folks should use caution for running and jumping for dogs under (about) 9 months old.
