Re: Won't potty away from the house

Maybe they could just throw the absorbent side of the pad on top of her pee in the yard? Then bring it in when they drop her off? I'm thinking that it could be less about a "clean" spot and more about "her" spot. Her backyard smells like her, nothing anywhere else smells like her...

Re: Dock Diving 101

Something that was suggested to me long ago and that we now practice is to let the dog have some quiet time before a competition. So if you are competing Saturday and Sunday - Thursday and Friday are fairly quiet. They don't get any running in, maybe even do a little extra crate time. Just build the...

Re: Won't potty away from the house

This is going to sounds crazy pants but could you have the owners bring you some used potty pads? Then maybe bait her water and put her in a space with "her pee"? So she really does need to go and yet it kind of smells like home? Could it also be an aversion to peeing where it smells like ...

Re: Melatonin

My wife gets really crazy dreams on Melitonin and I believe you can try reducing your dose by about 1/2. If it continues, you can try reducing your dose again or taking some time off of it and coming back in a week with a lowered dose.

Re: Dock Diving 101

That about covers it for me. Plus extra money. Our first couple times we would go to jump twice but once the dogs got jumping we'd pay in and jump all day. Nat'ls was the first time we restrained ourselves and Backup jumped his PB and won his class so maybe the advice is don't buy in too many waves...

Re: Yearly checkup, registration...am I paying too much $$$?

Well you are getting "all the regular vaccines" including what sounds like a 1 year rabies - so that says to me that you are getting and paying for things you might not need. IF you was to continue DH2PP, you can go to a 3 year cycle. Same thing for Rabies. It's more complicated but I sugg...

Re: Dock Diving 101

What kind of set up will we need? You might need shade. You ask ask on the Splash Dogs FB page or the message board. Most people have portable canopies (aka EZ ups). But if there's shade around you can just set-up there. Yes, bring a crate! If he's really into it - he going to start barking and pul...

Re: Leash Training a PUP!

A long line for potty time is a great idea! I like to play a game with the puppy. 1 - hungry puppy 1 - bait bag of tasty treats (mix of kibble, cheese, meats, etc) 1 - fenced in area (check out a tennis court if you don't have a backyard) Then reward for any attention and following you. The puppy be...

Re: Louisiana Sportsmen's Festival-Splash Dogs event!

Actually, one out of the three La Quinta's in metro Portland has a size restriction so I still like call in advance. Otherwise, they are definitely our dog-friendly motel-chain of choice :) That's good to know. My friend is an uber-fan of LaQ and always stays there. Do you know what the restriction...

Re: dog backpacks?

6.5 months is too young to wear a backpack since he's still growing. Instead of mindless walking, you can tire him out with tricks, training and learning new things!

Re: Louisiana Sportsmen's Festival-Splash Dogs event!

In the future, both La Quinta and Motel 6 accept pets with no additional fees and no breed restrictions.

Splash Dogs also has a discount through Red Roof Inn but I've never used it.

have a great time!

Erin - The Honest Kitchen offers sampler packs. That might be a good option to try.

Re: Disc Dog?

I know a bunch of disc dog people but I don't know anyone on PBF. I think your best bet would be to search your area for disc dog clubs. Try googling your state or metropolitan area and "disc dog".

OMG - Hank's having to do ring style heeling before he gets to go truffle hunting. It's been really good for him but his historic lack of impulse control means that it's also really hard for him! and he's one of those barking, frothing, blood-shot eyes dogs. oh and him showing "impulse control&...

Re: How too build a carpet mill??

My wife built us a carpet mill and the dogs thought it was stoo-pid. So we got a free treadmill off of craigslist and most of them really enjoy it.
