ChilliPeppers - thanks for the advice :) Baltimore Bully - While I'm not against using correction, I only believe in using it when the dog is already trained and so can understand what it has done wrong, or as a "quick fix" to serious problem behaviour (leash reactivity, extreme pulling) i...

So sorry to hear all that - you mentioned "A bit of swelling on one of her knees." why would the vet not x-ray the knee? I know she has had ongoing issues with them but the swelling should be checked out.... unfortunately that can be a sign of cancer.... hope all turns out ok. She had x-r...

tips for dealing with OCD?

HugABull has a very sexy, awesome new dog in our foster program, Miss Brigitte Bardot. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v192/chilliwackpitbull/P1050263.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v192/chilliwackpitbull/P1050261.jpg She's 1-2 years old, and deaf. Came into the shelter as a stray, and nobo...

I just have one question that I'm kind of curious about, why do you think that your dog would get cancer at some point in her life? no reason, just a feeling we've both always had. It turns out we've both always felt/thought that our other two dogs would live long healthy lives, but that Angel woul...

neutropenia?

So, I took Angel in for a checkup and blood panel yesterday. There's nothing "wrong" per say, but dh's mentioned a few times that she doesn't seem quite right. She pants sometimes even when she's not hot or needing to do her business, which we know can be due to discomfort. She is still ea...

foster or boarding needed in BC

This sweet and goofy boy is coming from a bad situation, and desperately needs a foster or boarding situation. He's been signed over to HugABull by the shelter to avoid him going back to the bad situation/owner, even though we've got no place to put him just yet. Everything is above-board here, his ...

fosters found! One is temporary only, but buys me time to find a regular foster.

I'll keep y'all posted on these beauties! I'm aiming to have them flown down here on Wednesday (or maybe Tuesday).

foster needed in Vancouver BC area

I've got three bullies in a Northern shelter needing foster asap, or they face being euthed for space/no adoption prospects. If you can foster, please PM me on this board, or visit http://www.hugabull.com and email off of there. These dogs come from a neglect situation - they were kept isolated (tog...

Transport needed

I'm looking for transport help in getting a sweet little gal out of the shelter she's at in Dawson Creek BC, down to the Lower Mainland of BC. We're looking into flights, but there's no airport there, and no flight straight through, so it may be easier to drive her in legs, if there's anyone in that...

update on our mange girls

Sorry this update hasn't come sooner, I've just not had the time. However, I know lots of folks have been wondering what's been going on with these girls. The girls are all doing very well. Bree and George are still in foster, and Jolie is in a foster-to-adopt. Bree and George have recently started ...

Well, after much debating back and forth, and opinions from several vets, I decided to have Angel thoroughly x-rayed, rather than jumping into surgery. Idea being that, if it's just her knees that are a problem, and she's not showing lameness or pain, we should just leave it for now. However, x-rays...

Yes, the surgery (and the problem Angel has) is far more common in small-breed dogs. My vet does have experience doing the procedure, although not often on a dog Angel's size. However, Angel's not huge, she's only 46lbs, so she should fare well. I don't have a doggy rehab center in town, but there's...

hmmm, I was just reading up on TPLO, and that's not what Angel would be having - I just assumed that was it, as I know the knee surgery she would have is a more complicated type. Her cruciate is fine. What's wrong with Angel's knee is that the groove it should ride in (trochlear groove) is too shall...

TPLO surgery opinions/experiences? (Long)

As many of you know, Angel's not exactly structurally correct. She's got luxating patellas on both sides, and has been symptomatic since she was 4 months old. Her history: - diagnosed Grade 3 luxation, medially and laterally, on both knees at 6 months old - consulted with an orthopoedic surgeon, who...
