Re: need help...DESPERATE!!!

Was he previously always loose and someone home all the time? If so, he has to be gradually trained to being confined. Just as a dog that's never been on a leash or had a collar on, will freak out when forced to wear one.

Re: need help...DESPERATE!!!

Why keep letting him have free run of the house, if he's not behaving? He needs to be confined to either a large crate or a room. That way, the mess can be contained. If he's in a crate, he might not even go to the bathroom, because he can't get away from it - but some dogs don't care(gross). Most w...

Re: Suggestions for living with cat?

Letty needs an outlet for her predatory tendencies. They are very normal and cannot be gotten rid of. Continue to train her to avoid the cats, but also build her a "prey-like" toy. They are called "flirt poles". It's like a giant version of a cat toy. The toy on a string, attache...

Re: Questions

I've seen that, or something like it. (Vets chime in!) does it come from malnutrition?
His legs are starting to deform. That is bone structure. Needs to be taken care of NOW. He's a growing pup and waiting a couple of weeks will do him great damage. It happens fast.

What are you feeding him?

Re: pit/husky mix in heat...maybe?

Isn't it normal for a bitch to go into her first heat anywhere from 6 months to 2 years old? I thought I'd read that.

Most commonly, it seems to be around 6 months old and usually before they turn a year old, from what I've seen.

Re: Dogs killed another animal and I'm getting tired of it a

You have to put up a second fence to prevent the dogs from coming into contact with the neighbor's dogs. Absolutely. You cannot train this out of your dogs. You cannot make your female who doesn't like other dogs - like them. You can make it so she is calmer, if she freaks out, but you can NEVER tru...

Do not leave any species of baby alone or free on the house. It's ALWAYS a "No No".
Only fully trained, well behaved animals deserve this privilege. :)

Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

Well, I think Keela blew her other knee. I was hoping I'd get more time, but that's how it goes. I'll give her a few days to see if there's improvement and take her in for an x ray.

Ah well, at least I know what I'm in for this time. I'm not worried. :)

Re: Need help; feeding guideline?

Depends on the food and the specific dog. Going by the guidelines on the bag will usually give you a fat dog. I fed my dogs 3 times a day until they were 6 months old, then I knocked it back to 2 times a day. I was feeding a grain free kibble. Brand was Canidae. They eat more as pup than they do as ...

Re: Allergies re: Class, Order, Family, Species, etc.

Animal classes are human labels, which means they're just fabricated groups. While mostly accurate - It doesn't necessarily show how close or far two species are related. They change their minds on things like that. :) I would say deer is closer to goat than cow. Sometimes the problem may be what th...

Re: pit bull chasing cat

Just remember that if your cat keeps bullying the other cats and causing pain/frustration to your dog, the odds of a real fight happening, increase. Your dog may end up gutting the cat, or you end up with two cats at the vet because of a cat fight. The dog playing with the cat is bad(because its not...

Re: New puppy food switch + parvo question

Booties won't help. If a puppy is stepping in the poop, it's nose is close enough to the ground to sniff and inhale the virus. That's how they often get it. They also get it from infected ground, with no poop around at all. I've lost a few puppies to parvovirus that never came into contact with othe...

Re: How to calm a over exited and playful pit bull puppy

3 - 4 times a week is not enough.
You should have a training session every single day. I personally try to do it 2x a day. Then again, I really dislike having an untrained/unruly dog in the house, so I try to get past that stage a.s.a.p. lol

Is she trying to go home, or trying to get to another dog? Has she been attacked by another dog in the past?
