Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

Thanks - it's been awhile since I had one of my dogs sliced open. It's hard to remember the little things. lol

Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

Keela is doing great with not licking. I think I'm going to get both dogs a Neck Hug pillow/collar. I'm worried about the inflatable ones being popped.

After having the staples removed, licking isn't much of a problem, right? The collar isn't really needed after two weeks?

Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

Ah, I wish. I believe the closest one is an hour and a half away. Tomorrow I will call the vet and see if they know of any place that carries something like that.

Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

Thanks guys :)
Glad to know that the staples aren't a big deal.

She destroyed the e-collar while in the crate. Crates and cones don't really mix well at all.

Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

She's doing great! :) She's confined to a large crate in the living room when she isn't on a very short leash by my side(brief breaks from the crate). It's swollen, but not bad looking and she's lightly using it, which the surgeon said was fine. All she's wanted since she came home yesterday was to ...

Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

Just got a call from the surgeon. He was able to sneak Keela in today and she should be coming home tomorrow afternoon. SO EXCITED!! What a great surprise. :yipee: :nana: He said it went beautifully and looks great. So glad I didn't have time to worry about her being under. It was also breaking my h...

Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

Well, Keela is staying at the vet office until Monday morning. The surgeon and everyone there is very nice. Since they're almost an hour away, he took her in today - so we didn't have to turn around and go back tomorrow. Because an emergency came in, she won't be done until Saturday morning. I got a...

Re: ACL repair. To knife or not.

If she's going to have arthritis either way, seems it would be better to have arthritis and a fixed ACL than arthritis and a torn ACL. You know, that totally makes sense. I didn't even think about it that way. Thank you :) If I could, I would fix Buddy's leg. We do ACL repairs twice a month or so a...

ACL repair. To knife or not.

Going to a surgeon tomorrow to have a consultation about doing a TPLO on Keela. I've been reading and found that dogs are getting the same arthritis weather they get the surgery or not. I'm doubting if an operation is right for my 7 year old dog. When I was wrapping her leg, there was improvement. I...

Re: infrequent dry cough?

Kennel cough, heart worm and previously irritating the throat are the only things that come to mind. She could have slightly choked on something earlier that is causing a scratchy throat. Or, if in contact with other dogs, she may have picked up kennel cough. Heartworms go in/through the lungs - but...

Re: My pup has no tail.

All dogs are the same in that manner. If you can cut off a boxer or a Rottweiler tail, you can cut of a pit bull's too. They won't have balance issues. Your puppy is clumsy because he's a pup. It's normal. :)

Re: Puppy questions (with pics)

I remember going through the "OMG! Is there something wrong with my puppy?!?" Stage with both of my dogs lol even though they're only five months apart. It's a weird paranoia that comes over you every dang time. She looks fine. The coloring on the face makes things seem off balance, but it...
