Re: Personality change after spay?

I've had four females go through spays and have known many, many more. It did not change any of their personalities.
I think that myth came about because dogs change as the become adults. The personality changes with or without the reproduction parts.

Re: when to worm for tapeworms?

My dogs kill rats a few times a year. I just give them their monthly heartguard(gets most worms but not tapes) and watch for "rice" or "Noodles" when they poop. If there's anything there, I'll medicate.

Hasn't happened yet. :)

Re: Questions about ACE and other Meds for my Foster

If your dog is a possible Boxer mix, it's ill advised to give them ACE. The Boxer forum that I used to frequent had lots of info about the breed being sensitive to it.

Re: TICK EMERGENCY!!!

Ew!!
Just went back and read how many - must have missed it. Poor little guy! I've never seen a dog with that many ticks. I used to live out in a tick infested area and still never saw a loose dog like that.

I'd imagine the little guy has anemia or something. :(

Re: TICK EMERGENCY!!!

If it's a tiny dog like a Chi, I'd just hand pick the bugs off.

Ticks can be removed by hand and there is no need for a chemical spray. Why poison your dog if you don't have to? They aren't like fleas(tiny and able to jump away). Ticks are much easier to manage than fleas. :)

Re: TICK EMERGENCY!!!

Tea tree oil is also poisonous to dogs, as is garlic. The danger is dose dependent. The dog may also be extra sensitive to some things, causing a more drastic symptom than normal.

Re: Sneezing and skull cracking

Compulsive sneezing is often something lodged in the nose. Around here(California) we have grass seed called "Fox Tails". They can poke in skin, eyes, between toes, up nostrils - pretty much anywhere on the dog. Because of the way they're shaped, they keep moving forward and cannot move ba...

Re: Am Veterinary Med Assn ruling against Raw Pet Foods

Both human and animal medical communities will and have blacklisted people for "rocking the boat" - no matter if they were right or not.

Don't go against the money - you will be smacked down.

Re: Am Veterinary Med Assn ruling against Raw Pet Foods

Until then, continue your conspiracy theories, they have no basis is science or fact. When I was working at the San Diego Zoo, in endocrinology for the reproduction of endangered species, it was very clear to all the keepers and scientific staff that manufactured products don't produce healthy anim...

Re: raw pork liver

Pigs that have access to meat is what the problem is, right? Pigs are ominivores and they LOVE meat. The tapeworms come from eating rodents and such, correct? It would be mighty hard to keep rodents out of a warehouse - we can't even keep them out of bakeries and the like. :) I was reading on a prim...

Re: boiled/baked boneless chicken

I agree about feeding freezer burned meat. It's perfectly fine to eat, both humans and dogs. We don't eat it because it tastes funky. Most canines evolved spending their winters eating the stuff from frozen carcasses. :)

Re: Fleas!

I've found that my dog is allergic to chicken, so when he eats it(no more!), his immune system goes down and he gets itchy. Partly from sensetive skin and mostly from the fleas LOVING him when he's in that state. I have some raw coconut oil that I rubbed on him - fleas HATE it. Probably because it c...

Re: I THINK SOCKS HAS KENNEL COUGH....

Poor guy :(

If there are other dogs in the home, don't let them eat or drink after him and don't let them get too close to him. It is contagious and it's a pain in the butt with a house full of coughing, sick dogs - not to mention the $ you have to dish out for treatment meds.

Get well soon Socks!
