well, i had sky out yesterday and she had a pre-spay vet appointment. i think her foster ma is misinterpreting . . . she is not swollen at all, and i see nothing that tells me she's getting ready to go. neither did the vet. big relief. spay will happen on schedule on tuesday. i can't wait till it's ...

well she's not IN heat, and we definitely don't want her to go into heat if we can help it, but the foster mom seems to think she's about to go. which would suck. but i can't get her an appointment any earlier than she has . . . damn it, i hope she holds out. i actually thought she was still too you...

first heat cycle

At what age does a pup usually go into her first heat? Sky's spay surgery is scheduled for the 14th, but her foster mom keeps telling me that if there's any way to get it done sooner, she thinks Sky is ready to go any day now. Yikes. When I saw her a few days ago, I couldn't see anything particularl...

I realized that I was a dog freak when I realized that I liked the way a dog smells. Not filthy gross dog who is dirty and neglected, but dogs who are clean and healthy and part of the family.

Storing in plastic food bins isn't good. The plastic will leach nutrients and the oils in the food will get in the plastic and cause problems, it will start to smell like rancid oil. Dang, just when you think you've got the food stuff down, you go and learn you're not doing it right. I suppose I ca...

i just found mold in my canidae!

I got to about the middle of my supply of Canidae (I buy a 40 lb bag for 2 dogs) and just got a scoop with mold in it! I'm so mad about this, and since I store my food in a big plastic resealable bin, I don't even have the bag UPC to send to them to let them know what batch it was in!! :po: Ugh! I'm...

Is that a rehab pool just for dogs Yeah, it was designed with the arthritic and dysplatic canine in mind--it's only 4 feet deep all around, and it has a very gently sloping ramp so the dog can ease into the water at his/her own pace. And there is a low wall so you can do your laps on a long lead al...

Pup in MD

I posted her cute lil' mug in the gallery, but I figured I should post a note here, just in case anyone on the board is looking to adopt a female pup. Here is Sky, she is in Baltimore, MD. She was adopted out when she was about 10 weeks old, and now she's roughly 5 months. Returned to us because the...

swim therapy!

Reba had her first swim-therapy session yesterday morning, and after she got over the weirdness of it all, she loved every minute of it! Her first 10 minutes of it is the unfun part, where she has to swim laps in a life preserver on a long lead around the pool, but the last part of it was free swim!...

barb, thank you so much! since it's a locally distributed food, it's being pushed like crack rock in some of my favorite pet stores, and i keep asking about it compared to canidae (what i feed now) and people keep telling me it's comparable. but i saw so many more meat sources in canidae's labels th...

barbponys, ever heard of . . .

Ingredients in Verus Lite: Ground Brown Rice, Ground Grain Sorghum, Lamb Meal, Ground Oats, Rice Bran, Poultry Fat (preserved with Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Citric Acid, and Rosemar...
