Re: OFFICIAL e-collar debate thread

Think about it. You would want to build them up, positive training.

Re: OFFICIAL e-collar debate thread

That's not to say that EVERYone who ever puts a bark collar or e-collar on their dog is going to end up with nasty wounds like that. I sure haven't ever seen that -- haven't experienced it with my own dogs -- haven't seen it with various dogs who are trained with e-collars. Obviously that was a VER...

Re: Feeding Raw

Our base is chicken quarters. And we usually give backs on weekends, or whenever someone needs more bone. The backs are huge, very meaty and have organs attached. So they get their organs from there, or additional organs occassionally. We throw in some beef heart here and there, looking to get some ...

Re: Helping out a friend ... mange

It works REALLY well, but the risk of developing Pemphigus Foliaceus as a side effect is pretty scary. Pemphigus = steroids for life... not something you want in a dog with a history of demodex. It made a believer out of me! I was a bit skeptical when she didn't want to go the Ivomec route ... but ...

Re: Helping out a friend ... mange

I treated a pup for demodex with Promeris, per my vet's recommendation. I had Ivomec at home, but she said she preferred the results of Promeris over Ivomec. It was unreal how it worked. Granted, I believe Promeris is getting pulled off the shelves, but he was cleared in 3 treatments (2 weeks apart)...

Re: VA store SuperPets MOVING SALE!

I used to buy kibble there -- I think when I still fed Canidae. I really liked that store! Maybe we'll have to head back and see what they have.

Re: What do I say to this?

Who has friends who would come over and just hit your dog? Easy solution -- keep the lock on the door so no one has access to your dog and ignore what the roommates say. Or, get out and get your own place. No, your dog isn't gonna go crazy because he's not "socialized" during the day. None...

Re: Hog Hunting--too dangerous for rescue dogs?

Hogs aren't always that easy to find...I mean while there is a huge over population of them, using a gun isn't always the right thing to do, especially when it comes to residential type of areas or livestock. It's easier to bay them up, and send in the catch dogs, and then handle business from ther...

Re: Natural Food vs. "Major" Brand vs. Raw

Back is the back of the animal (which you can buy), a lot of people promote the use of backs and necks for some reason, IMO they are too boney and not enough meat on them, I dont waste my money on them. Back and necks are boney meals, and do serve a purpose. Backs (chicken) are like tooth picks for...

Re: Blu ate a bite of grass that had the pesticide tag on it

I'm no vet, but I wouldn't worry too much about a bite of grass. Especially for a 50 lb dog, he'll probably be just fine. We spray our yard with pesticides and try to keep dogs in while it dries. Kennels, too. So I'm sure a small exposure won't be as issue. Just keep an eye on him for any strange si...

PWee is a fun little dog to watch on the track -- and off the track. Lots of spunk.

Re: Snows Hip X-rays are Finally Here

Hip dysplasia CAN be identified early in life, and its important to do so in dogs severely affected because there are surgical options in dogs under 12 months of age to alter the hip joint itself. Out of curiosity, how would this affect a working dog? Would it prohibit a working dog actively doing ...

Re: Breaking up a fight with 2 or 3 dogs

Eh, but choking a dog off the other dog is also useful. When you don't have access to a breakstick and you need to get the two separated ASAP, pick the dog with the hold up by the collar. I had to do it when I had a kennel malfunction and another dog was out in the yard. Luckily, the dog who had a h...
