Re: Teaching my dog to come...

A good trick I've found is to make a fist with your hand, extend it out, and then call the dog to you. Start with the dog close to you and then gradually increase the distance. In the beginning have a treat in your hand then over time you can phase the treat out slowly. Eventually your dog will asso...

Wow so this is a new one!

This morning when letting the dogs out to pee Lila was doing her usual sniffing and marking over the couple spots Angel peed on. Lila is very diligent about overmarking on Angel's urine but he will rarely mark over her's. I've seen him do it maybe a handful of times, even before he was neutered. Thi...

Re: CONFUSED PLEASE HELP

It's ironic because my daughter who is 7 was the one to discover the massacre, and she is coping far better than any of the adults. She is a very bright little girl. She told me this morning "Mommy I dont care what anyone says. Fate is my sister and she is just being an animal. Doggies are wil...

Re: Too hard at tug of war??!! lost puppy teeth

IDK, I wouldn't worry about it. Angel plays very rough with dogs who will allow it and as a puppy several times he was completely bloody all over his face and neck from losing a baby tooth due to rough play. Of course it was blood mixed with saliva from rough play and the dogs mouthing each other bu...

Re: Alarm Barking

Angel usually gives just a few barks then he's over by me for reassurance. He doesnt go on and on usually. Both dogs know "hush" means quit barking so that's usually all it takes to quiet him. Lila is much more serious about it though and it's harder to distract her and quiet her down. Ang...

Re: Alarm Barking

...she's just a busy body who must know what is going on at all times. If the cats make a noise in the kitchen, she has to explore. She's like the town gossip. This sounds so much like Angel. He's always got to be investigating something, esp if it has to do with the cats roflmao ! Although ever si...

Alarm Barking

I'm curious how many of you have pit bulls who alarm bark. I grew up with the breed and never remember any of our dogs doing that. Angel does this but he's very insecure about it, he'll usually bark then run over to me for reassurance. I think he may have copied the behavior from Lila (half g shephe...

Re: prey drive

I have two high prey drive dogs and two cats and I havent noticed the flirt pole changing their behavior towards them. Angel, my male, stays amped up for a long time after the flirt pole but not towards the cats. I only do 5-10m at a time though because of the heat and he has some joint issues so ma...

Re: Who's Had Hives?

*fingers crossed* no hives yet this year! Last year may have just been his puppy immune system working itself out as we were at the vet five times because of his hives. He is still an allergy dog with the red feet and stinky bacterial smell if he doesnt get a bath right on schedule but no hives so f...

Re: Castration question

It took about a month and a half for me to see results in Angel. He was a year and a half when I did it so maybe that's why, idk. But now the difference in his behavior as well as my other dog's attitude towards him is HUGE. He was definitely starting to think he was the big boss man and Lila was no...

Re: Examples of BARF/RAW menus

[quote="Mya&theSiebenDackels"]I plan on making my own custom menu based on my own dogs needs, I was just interested on what other fed their dogs. I want to make sure that I am feeding my dogs a balanced diet so that is why I am learning as much as a can about the subject. :) [quote] Ke...

I have a 8 week old apbt and let me tell ya, I have never had a puppy whine as much as this little guy :crybaby: Anybody have any tactics :aha: to cure this while he's in his kennel at night :pray Where do you keep his kennel? Have you started slowly crate training him during the day? With my dog I...

Re: Substitution for the sound of a smoke alarm?

Have you seen those boxes that send out a high pitch sound, at Petsmart? They are to prevent dogs from getting onto furniture and they can be turn on with motion and managed with a button so perhaps that is something you could try. I haven't but I'll keep an eye out for them. That would probaby be ...

Substitution for the sound of a smoke alarm?

Long story short, a few months ago I was cooking with a very high heat, the kitchen got smokey, the smoke detector went off, Angel freaked out shaking and clawing at the door to get out of the house. After that all I had to do was turn the burner on and he'd run and shake by the back door wanting ou...

Re: Omg a stray cat scratched Ruger!

About a month ago my dogs got ahold of a stray cat that was in my back yard and Angel got scratched up really badly (along with his brand new leather Collarmania collar!!!). Not to mention the cat peed all over him. I washed him with an antibiotic shampoo that I use on him because of his allergies, ...
