Re: Chewing paws? =/

I forgot to ask what kind of food she eats? My allergy dog's mother had allergies too. The only thing she couldn't have in her diet was corn, but she ate the same food for years before she showed symptoms. She never had environmental allergies though. That is one reason only professionals should bre...

Re: Eating too Quickly?

I would say if he is not choking on it not to worry. All my dogs eat quite fast. I think it takes the pit bulls inside less than two minutes to finish their food, and I always feed them with water in their food. My sled dogs are 'trained' to eat quickly and all that I give them. When its -30 F and w...

Re: Chewing paws? =/

Have you changed any cleaning chemicals in the home? I have one dog that has food allergies and also contact allergies. Her feet bother her to the point that she constantly licks and chews them till they are raw, she also scratches her armpits until they bleed. I used to feed her a raw diet but time...

Re: Nature's Variety (or TOTW)

I just switched my dogs back to totw from diamond naturals. i really like the diamond for my guys, but the price went up again, and totw was like ten bux off a bag. feed whatever your dog does well on, if he has energy a shiny coat and good stool stick with that food. if he had any goopy eyes, feet ...

Re: Spaying young or older?. Advice?.

amelie got spayed at the first hint of her first heat. she is a VERY active and athleti dog, we have not noticed any bone or growth problems with her. she is 6yrs old and still going strong! i would have your girl done between 4 and 6 months.

Re: Debarking?

i would advise against deaarking. when i lived in the states i had neighbors and a team of sled dogs, not a great combo. we had the majority of the dogs debarked. some were silent barkers, some sounded worse after surgery. i have never been a fan of bark collars....until i rescued an adult great pyr...

Re: Switched food a month ago - still having diarrhea

i kno you don't want to feed the iams, but if he was doing well on it, perhaps go back to it, for his comfort. you could then take your time finding a similar food that you like. iams may not be the best food, but there are worse foods out there.

Re: Really long toenails - info please

if your dog does not have any problems with her short nails and they cause her no discomfort, then i see no problem keeping them that short. i personally wouldn't want my dogs nails quite that short, but then again i have working sled dogs and they need a bit of nail to dig into snow when the going ...

Re: Allergies? Or is it

i have a dog with food alergies, she is 5 years old, we discovered her alergies early on luckily. she ate a raw diet for many years, and did quite well, her bloodwork always came back great. i have just recently started feeding her the Natural Balance venison and sweet potato, and so far so good. i ...

Re: Best way to excercise my pups?

oops, forgot to answer the original question. how old are your pups? if they are truly pups, then rollerblading is probably not the best idea. not that they do not enjoy it, but because their joints are still growing and hard running, especially on hard surfaces will damage them. you may not see any...

Re: Weight Gain Question

i would not have her gain any more weight. she looks fine the way she is. if your vet says she is fine, listen to him. even just a few extra pounds on a dog is a lot of stress on their joints/heart etc. i keep my dogs (and myself) what most "pet dog vets/people" would consider thin. though...

Re: Weak/down pasterns Carpal Subluxation Syndrome

i would not push him to exersize, (running, jumping) especially on hard surfaces like concrete. if you ave any hiking trails you could drive to or even a regular park with grass/dirt, walking him there would help. i think with walking exersize every day it will give his tendons/muscles a chance to ge...
