Re: Cliker ?s

Thanks for explaining that Amie. I figured that it was something like that since the elephant did get a reward at the end of the series and was very willing during the training.

Cliker ?s

So I took the kids to the zoo yesterday and the keepers were doing some training with the elephants and utilizing clickers. They would have the elephant lift its front leg then the back leg and click each time she did what was asked but did not reward until after a series of the movements was done. ...

Re: CGC ?s

CGC is the Canine Good Citizen test through the AKC. Basically is tests to see if your dog would be controlled in every day public situations. For the meet the other dog, both dogs are leashed and on their handler's left side. If your dog can walk down a sidewalk and be under control around the pres...

Re: CGC ?s

He talked a little during the separation, but not enough to fail that portion. Taking a 4 week class at the testing site helped; it was not a completely new place and we had practiced portions of the test and he got used to waiting (he also talks and whines when he is bored).

Re: Pit proof toy suggestions needed!

If she likes fetch, the hyperflight K-10 jawz disc is very durable. It will get punctured, but is made to hold its shape.

Re: CGC ?s

The problem is that I do not have a "stranger" to help me train for the separation portion of the test. He will not try to leave or pull on the leash, but he will whine and talk. He does not do the Stafford song, so it could be worse. I can put him in a sit stay at home and leave out of si...

If you are in New Mexico, contact your legislators and let them know you support House Bill 63 which is anti BSL.

CGC ?s

I am training Semper to take the CGC. The two parts of the test I think he will have the most trouble with are the meeting a strange dog and the supervised separation. He will sometimes snark at unfamiliar dogs. Generally he does okay on leash as long as the other dog does not try to get in his pers...

That video is alarming. The dog is being reinforced for growling and barking at the baby.

Re: Walking Belt?

i guess i dont understand, can someone explain to me why this is more desireable then the regular hand leash and collar? It allows you to walk a dog or dogs hands free. I find it invaluable as I walk three dogs, push a stroller and have a toddler holding one hand. It is also nice for jogging as I d...

Re: What people pay money for

:teary: And here I thought that taking the newest pack member into the front yard on leash while my neighbors were setting off fireworks during the Fourth and feeding him treats was a good way to teach him that fireworks are okay. I never knew that setting fireworks off right by the dog and attempti...

Re: Starting to worry about Dolly and the baby

When Dolly is not nervous and likes being around Kael, praise her and give her treats. When she is nervous, remove her from the situation for now. This will help establish the flight response. I would not have Kael feed her treats; him dropping food is fine. Many times kids will offer food and then ...
