Re: Pictures from our 1st weekend practices

very cool. how do you know if a dog is a good candidate for dock diving? it looks like a blast. we took Jazz to a pool yesterday, and she jumped right in, from the side. do you think we should try out dock diving? she jumped in after toys (and people. lol ) there wasn't much distance due to the size...

Re: Dog lunging on leash - aggressive or no?

Jazz does this too, only she makes noise as well. whining, barking (sometimes sounding quite terrifying if you don't know her), and other various vocalizations while straining to meet the other dog. as this is very rude, I don't let her go up to the other dog, but she does not do this with every dog...

Re: Anyone tried "doggyman" nail clippers?

we used to use those. not for long though, because they would split the nail most times. (about a 50 pound dog, pretty thick nails) the decimated the ends of the nails. they were nasty for a while. I wouldn't use those on a larger dog. one with smaller/thinner nails maybe, but not one with thick nai...

Re: ignoring other dogs

so, how did you get your dogs to do that under major distraction? You don't get your dog to do that under major distraction. You get your dog 150% rock solid on it under no distraction, then add a small amount of distraction and get your dog 150% rock solid on it with that small distraction, then a...

Re: ignoring other dogs

OH- i forgot to mention- "watch" is what i use, but it didn't work with harvey, he was so anxious about the other dog that he COULD NOT sit still and focus on me. i taught him to target my hands with his nose and used that instead. i put him in a sit-stay and held my hand out in different...

Re: ignoring other dogs

the problem with the removing from the trail is that if I am on a trail, there is only about 2 feet of space around a 5 foot wide trail. far too close for Jazz to focus on anything. not only that, but everyone seems to want to walk in the middle of the trail, making them even closer. me saying Jazz ...

Re: ignoring other dogs

What exactly have you tried? What are her body postures when she first sees the other dog and as they approach? Can you have someone videotape for us? It might be easier to give some tips if we can see exactly her behaviour. You could try slowly desensitizing her to the stimulus, in her case, the o...

ignoring other dogs

Jazz, My GSD, has not improved when it comes to ignoring other dogs, or even rabbits or squirrels. when she spots a dog, she will automatically go into a crouch and lay down: http://i684.photobucket.com/albums/vv208/bigblackdogs/133.jpg she will do this as early as 20 feet away. once she has focused...
