I won't really know until I talk to them and give them the good, the bad & the ugly, feel them out about training philosophies, etc. Lola's not a bad dog, but if this couple is looking for a go-anywhere do-anything dog, she's not the best match. If, however, they like *her* (as opposed to just h...

Ack! Lola just got an application in, but the couple hasn't owned a dog on their own before. How do I talk about SA without scaring them off! roflmao

Well, you talk a good line, but you have a stud dog who is only 2 yrs old advertised on a free listing website for $1000 stud fee. I'm curious to know what Osiris has done to earn such a high stud fee and how this is a way to responsibly add to the pit bull population that already exists and in a st...

Frankly, for the first several weeks I had Lola, I didn't assume it was SA and just waited for her to adjust to the household and to accept that she would get crated when I had to leave. For a while, I could leave her in the backyard while I took Desi somewhere, but then she discovered the side gate...

I should clarify that all that behavior I described is when Lola feels she should be with me/the pack (yes, the very definition of separation anxiety :)) ). When we are just hanging out or when she's put outside to potty, she is fine. It's when I dare take Desi somewhere or take the bike out without...

She pants and shakes when she is in her crate. If she is not in her crate, she will destroy bedding/anything in reach. She will also shred any bedding left in her crate. If she is left in the yard, she will try to dig out/chew on the fence. So, as stressed as she can get in the crate, it's the safes...

TONKA bulldog mix seeks retirement home

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p181/jltomich/tonka6.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p181/jltomich/tonka7.jpg Tonka is a 9yo FS bulldog mix (who knows with what) and weighs 48 lbs. She was left behind a year ago by her homeless owner and the family who let her hang out on their property f...

I'm weak! I put her on drugs!

Please be gentle! :crybaby: I couldn't take the whining, the panting, the jumping on the sliding glass door, so I snapped! One of us needed to go on drugs, and Lola was the obvious choice (I hope so, anyway). Anyway, my vet hasn't been too impressed with what she's read about Clomicalm, so I started...

Your mother can always look into having a vasectomy done on her dog, as well. It is not going to help his frustration if he smells a female in heat, but at least it will prevent puppies. The less preferable option, but one to consider.

If you read the article through, it recommends spaying before the first heat because the risks of mammary tumors/cancer are almost nil if the spay is done first. Females do not experience a testosterone surge during puberty, so there is no difference in muscle tone/joint closure/etc. There really is...

Lo-Lo-Lo-Lo LOLA!

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p181/jltomich/lola1-1.jpg Lola was pulled from the Merced shelter when she was slated for euthanasia. She and her possible sister were found running in a field, and Lola was later found to have 6-8 bird or buckshot pellets under her skin. Both dogs were emaciated ...

petharbor.com is similar to petfinder.com, but it lets you search stray intakes as well. Just enter your ZIP code & click on the shelter(s) you want to search. You can search by breed, too, but that depends on what the shelter calls the dog.

Having had dozens of pediatric neuters done on rescues over the years, I have to disagree that it's a "lot of trauma" for a puppy. Neuters/spays tend to be a lot easier on puppies because they recover so quickly and the surgery is somewhat easier because the body parts involved are smaller...
