Hello from eastern Pennsylvania

Postby austin. » Fri Sep 19, 2008 12:09 pm

Hey everybody,

My name is Austin and I'm from Bethlehem, PA. I got my first pitbull, Muppy, when I was 9 years old. He was amazing. However, I recently lost him to cancer. He lived a very happy 13 year life.

I'm not a functioning person with out a pitbull in my life, so I've been keeping an eye out for a pup. As fate would have it, I am going to visit my new baby boy for the first time tomorrow! He is from a breeder called "Diamond C Pitbull" in Lehighton, PA. He was born 08/01/08 so I still have a few more weeks before I can bring him home. He is estimated to be between 85 and 95 pounds, so he will be a big boy! I'm thinking about naming him Sprinkles.

Locals, feel free to shoot me a PM if you would like to get together for a play date in a couple of weeks.

-austin

Hi Austin, Welcome to you, so you live in beautiful Bethelham. My two friends grew up there and my X.
I agree with your statement that you can't live without a pitt, me too.
That's a good name but I find it so much better to get the know the little tike first and then through his personaliy a name will come. But then that's me. ]
I hope you can fine someone locally to meet up with to run and play. There's a site called meetup.com where you can actually just start a meet up group in your area, at a doggie park etc.
If not why don't you just get two! I have two half brothers from different litters. Same mom and different dads. They get along wonderfully all they do all day long is play and run around. They love each other alot and they are great company for each other. Good Luck to you and your new boy. Jjoy

Yeah, I love Bethlehem. Maybe I know your friends. You're absolutely right about picking the name to suit the personality. That is what I have done with all of my animals, and its always worked out for the best.

I don't think I could handle two pitbulls, haha. I love them to pieces, but they are a handful.

Actually you may come to find that dog parks aren't the best places to organize SAFE play dates. Theres a Sticky thread in the General section that explains this.

And now finally... Welcome to the forum! I can't wait to see pictures of your new pup. May I ask what prompted you to buy from a breeder? I personally opt for rescues, but I don't disagree with the idea of buying from a breeder either, but thats just me :) You're going to see that there is a lot of great information here, and once you're given full access from one of the mods you'll be able to post in all of the other sections of the forum :)

i'm completely on the same page as you actually. my first pit, Muppy, was a rescue. Also, every animal we have is a rescue. some people refer to my house as "the house of miscrits." my puppy is a bit of a story of fate. my mom and i had a small army looking for adoptable pitbull puppies in the area. everybody came up empty handed. when we did find a baby, it had parvo. we checked every pet store's bulletin board, every veterinarian's office, every shelter, etc. philly was the closest but they were very unhealthy.

somebody in the 'pitbull puppy hunting army' was nice enough to actually buy this puppy for me as a surprise. he is a client and friend of my moms. she told him basically what was going on, and he came over a few days later and said "so, do you want to see pictures of your son's new dog?" it really is an amazing gesture, and i can't thank this dude enough for what he did.

this puppy was third pick in his litter by a couple in canada. shortly after they made the deposit, the woman found out she was pregnant, so they decided to not get the puppy. about a day later is when the guy who got him for me called the breeder to see if there were any puppies left.

i met the puppy for the first time last night, and i hope these pictures post correctly, i've never posted pictures before. he is such a sweet happy little pup. he sure does love biting my hair though.

Your puppy is adorable!! Congrats! And Welcome! I'm from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area, nice to see more from PA on the board!

Again, be wary of dog parks (see sticky that was recommended). Also, don't have puppy play dates until after your pup is FULLY vaccinated! Keep the pup off floors of petstores n that sort of stuff.

Welcome!!

thanks for the warm welcome and insight. i read through the sticky and it makes a whole lot of sense. i will not be taking my pup to the dog park, those places are sketchy. also, i don't plan on having the little one leave the property until he is set with vaccines.

Diamond C Kennel? If they're the same people, they used to have a beautiful male named Mako, about 15 years ago. Not nearly as big as you're describing.
