Hi from MS!

Postby Sierraraptor » Fri Oct 10, 2008 1:04 pm

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting in the forum, but as a soon-to-be pit mom I've been browsing for weeks - this site is incredibly informative and helpful in preparing for my first pittie.

I first fell in love with pits when I was in middle school volunteering at the local humane society. I volunteered/worked there for five years, and during that time, of all the dogs that came in that were abused, hurt, and emaciated and had every right to hate and fear people, the pit bulls were the ones that were willing to forgive and forget and would give kisses.
As I started doing more research on the breed, I absolutely fell in love with their goofy, loyal, perfect personalities, and there is nothing more handsome than a healthy, shiny pit.

I hate how such good dogs have such a bad rap, and I really want to help change both the general public's perception of what a "pit bull" is, as well as working towards getting rid of BSL, etc. I plan to work as an Animal Outreach Educator "when I grow up" :) , and until I get there I've already spoken to the principal at a local elementary school about doing some animal outreach in the classrooms.

I've been in Southern California for the past four years getting my bachelor's degree in psychology, and now I'm living in Mississippi working as a Vet Assistant at a local animal hospital/pet resort and spa.

Now that I'm no longer a full-time student, I'm finally in a position to be able to give a pit bull a wonderful life. In fact, I've already found and applied for the most adorable little girl in the entire world, and she's coming home tomorrow!!

Here's a link to her petfinder page (lots of cute, cute pictures there).
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=11948731

The page is a little out of date - she's six months old now, not four, but she's still just as incredibly cute as in the pictures (half pit bull, half BAT haha).

I haven't been able to sleep for the past few nights, I'm so excited about finally getting the dog I've been waiting for since middle school.

I want to do everything absolutely right, and I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions once she gets here, so keep an eye out for my posts!

I'm so glad I found this community - be prepared for pictures of my new girl :D

Welcome! I also live in Mississippi! Good luck on adopting her! She is a cutie! Also, if you are not able to adopt her there are several pit bulls at the Horn Lake Animal Shelter in Horn Lake, MS that need homes!

:peace: :peace: SHE'S HERE SHE'S HERE :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

She is seriously the greatest dog in the history of time. Super, super smart. Super, super calm, friendly, well-socialized, gorgeous - I couldn't ask for anything more.

Today she's already learned to get in her crate when I ask her to, drop her favorite toy on command, and she already knew sit coming in, but she's very good at it!

Also I was worried about introducing a pit to my cat (I read all the threads on here and figured it would take a minimum of three weeks to even start to see results), but she completely ignores the cat! She'll wag her tail and sniff the kitty, but she's not at all fixated on her and would much rather come give me a kiss or play with her toys than check out the cat. How did I get so lucky? (Of course, even though this first day was extremely promising, I won't be letting them interact at all off-leash or while I'm not home.)

Once I find my camera cord there will be lots of pictures of Miss Veruca Salt :D
