Anyway, I'm owned by three Rescue Pit Bulls (well, Angel's a mix, but she gets unofficial Pit Bull status just 'cause she's the only "powder-puff Pit Bull" around - thanks for that Sarah :lol: ).
Angel - 3yrs old, female
Sugar - 2yrs old, female
Gage - 1 1/2, male, red
I'm married, and have a seven-year-old foster son, who has autism, that hubby and I are trying to adopt. The dogs just love the kiddo, and, while he was initially a "cat person", he's now pretty fond of them too. He has a special bond with Sugar in particular.
I'm new to Pit Bulls (Angel got me interested in the breed), and new to dogs in general, but it's been a sharp learning curve!
These days, I spend my time doing rescue, education, and advocacy work. I'm co-director of HugABull, "BC's Pit Bull Education and Advocacy Group", which takes up a tremendous amount of my time.
I do a lot of shelter assessments and training/behavioral consults for people having trouble with their bullies. I find I really enjoy this aspect of things, and am considering getting more involved in the training world, although first I'd like to get off my butt and work and title Gage in something. My dogs all have general obedience and basic training, but I've never taken it beyond that aside from a few informal parlor tricks:
Angel can "find" any item on command if she's allowed to smell it first before it's hidden, Gage will leap high into the air on command and is also learning weightpull, Sugar, well, Sugar is cute and that will have to do
I'm very opinionated, and have strong feelings about responsible breeders vs. BYBs, responsible ownership, and all the other issues that surround this breed. I try to stay out of the breeder threads, as, as someone who does rescue, I find it extremely depressing and frustrating, but will throw my two cents in now and then.
For all the newbies, there are some really knowledgeable folk in here who you'll want to listen to, in particular mnp13, Sarah, Diane Jessup, Demo, Pocketpit, LeslieH, Odnarb, Heartofgold, Skoth, moto, barbponys, DisSanfranchised, Spurby, and Dawgdays stick out for me. Also, if you're looking for comedic relief, we've got our own little funny-group; Adoptashelterpit, Damien, Chocolate Thunda, Whiskeyman, and BLover are always cracking good jokes! (Not trying to pick favorites, those are just the folks I thought of)
