Hi bigred. I want to warn you that you'll get advised not take Maddie to the dog park. Try not to take it personally -- they only want what's best for dogs, and sometimes their passion comes across the internet as rudeness.

But the reasoning is sound. Dog parks are a good place for dogs to pick up communicable diseases. Also, most folks at a dog park are not really monitoring their dogs, and don't have much clue about dog body language anyway. So they might say "awww, how cute, he wants to play" when the dogs are actually saying "back the f--- up, you :po: :po: before I f--- you up!" That kind of behavior (from the owners) is tolerated if the dogs are pomeroodles. If one of the dogs is a Pit Bull, however, it's another story; and it's always the dogs who pay the price for their owners' negligence.

There's a whole gi-normous thread on it: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50274
There's also a thread on more appropriate ways to give Maddie her necessary socialization: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=22235

Anyhow... welcome to PBF.
