new to PBF -

Postby blucifer » Wed Jan 11, 2012 10:09 am

Hi everyone,

We rescued a blue/white female PB (2 ys old) from a local shelter last Friday.
She is our second bull breed, We had Lefty an AM staff male (19" - 70lbs) from 1998 to 2009.

We live in rural MN with 3 kids, Ted a small mixed breed, and
2 garage cats.

Welcome! Thank you for rescuing her, she is gorgeous! I don't have any advice on cats, but I believe there was a recent thread in training about something similar.

Lucy is beautiful. Welcome to you and your family.
I live in Minneapolis.

Here's a good Sticky from the training section regarding cats and dogs:

I went back and re-read my OP. I should clearify, we are fostering/adopting the dog from a local rescue. She was a surender to the rescue not a shelter. I just wanted to give proper consideration to the shelter, Kathy has happy, healthy dogs.

ilovethepits,

Thanks

I'm letting the cat thread sink in. I'm afraid our dog falls into the high prey drive category, but it has only been a short while.

I have one very high-prey dog <<< over there in my avatar is Lily...anyway she is "pretty good, most the time" with the cats but hates it when they just sit and stare at her. I have to step in and tell her "leave kitty alone" when a stare-down begins.

Also I gate Lily in the kitchen when I'm gone and the two gates have cat doors in them so the cats can get through but Lily cannot.

My cats are inside cats and viewed very differently by both dogs than any stray/feral outdoor cats. That is a whole different ball game.
