Hello, My name is Laurie, I am 31 years old and I live in the Hudson Valley of NY. I work with the developmentally disabled population as a Behavior Specialist. I currently own 5 wonderful sugar gliders who are the loves of my life and I have a wonderful boyfriend of 4 years. Ian and I have very different work scheduled (I'm off on the weekends and he works EVERY weekend, so I am often home alone; as at this age, my friends all have husbands and kids or have moved away for job opportunities, ect. For the longest time I've been wanting a dog and my boyfriend keeps saying NO (even though I own the townhome we live in). But I am trying to be respectiveful of his wishes. Finally 2 weeks ago I was saying that I would be so much happier if I had a dog for a companion. He actually said that if this would make me happy, we could get one! Of course I rushed that next day to the shelter and started looking at all the dogs. 2 dogs caught my eye. One was a Shiba Inu. I loved how she looked like a little fox. She was sweet, BUT very aloof. She didn't pay much mind to me (as they are very independent dogs and are hard to train). The other one was Graham. He was a rednosed pitbull with the sweetest demeanor. He was the one for me! The home visit went well & we brought him home on 9/30/13. He is about 7 years old. We LOVE him. I never owned a pit bull before. For me, it had nothing to do with the breed of dog, it had everything to do with THE DOG. He was simply the dog for us!
