Greetings and Salutations

Postby ZBully » Tue Dec 15, 2015 12:52 am

Fate brought us together with our girl, a Staffordshire/Cattledog mix. She looks quite a bit like a yellow lab golden retriever, but her Dad is a beautiful Blue Staffordshire and her Mom is a black Cattledog mix.

Go figure!

In any event, she won our affections and soon, our hearts, and now she is one of the family. Meet Kimber:

Hi ZBully!! Welcome to the forum.

What an adorable puppy Kimber is and how lucky she is to be part of your family. Looking forward to hearing about Kimber's life adventures.

I must say that the photo of Harley and Kimber together melts my heart.

Her Daddy is a handsome lad indeed :inlove:

Thanks, Chilly. At first we were hesitant about her, being 1/2 Staffy and all. We weren't educated about them and had the typical concerns that many have. But after speaking with a number of professionals, we were told that Staffordshires are fantastic dogs, and widely misunderstood by the public. Our vet told us that she would probably be the best dog we've ever had!

The Am staff side will be no concern when you watch the point of dog aggression, much socializing when your dog is young with other calm dogs and always keep in mind there's fighting blood in your dog, time will tell if she wil fight or not.

But the Am staff side give's you also; big friendship, the will to please, protection, high fun factor, a clever dog and a reliable and trustworthy friend.

So just be consistent and loving towards your dog and keep in mind that the Am Staff's mental feelings are soft so don't be to hard for your dog when she's young, consistent don't need to be hard.

I love the pic of her dad, he look's real calm and clever.

Nickdawg... Thanks.

Chilly... She's being raised with an older, extremely mellow and tolerant Golden/Lab cross. No matter what she does to him, he responds with calm, exceptional tolerance. Hopefully she will pick this up from him. And we're planning to get her to puppy classes at the pet store in the next week or so so she can mix and mingle with other pups.

THing is, she hasn't had her final vaccination yet. One vet tells us not to take her to class until after the 3rd and last shot, due to possibility of parvo. Another vet says it isn't smart to wait that long, from a behavioral standpoint, and that we should take the risk of parvo to better avoid a risk of developing aggression with other dogs.. I don't know which vet's advice to follow.

Don't take the risk just wait, that's what i should do, she is interacting with your older dog for now, so that's good for the moment.

I did the same just some weeks ago. 8)
