HELP!!! Adoption Issue...

Hello, I just adopted a 6 week old APBT mix from the local rescue center. Or at least that's what I thought. After bringing the dog home, the shelter called and said that they gave us the wrong dog! . The problem is, the dog and my daughter are already very close. She and the rest of the family love the puppy.

My question is.... do I have to give up the puppy?

At 6 weeks old that puppy should be with his momma and siblings..
Why would they adopt out a 6 week old???
How could they give you the wrong dog? I'm confused.
You go to the shelter.
Pick out a dog.
Meet with the dog, decide you want it.
Fill out appropriate paperwork, get approved, pay.
They bring out dog.
If it's not the dog you picked out, you would say "Hey, wrong dog pal." They would bring out the correct dog.
You go home and live happily ever after.
How could you get the wrong dog?

Thanks for the quick response. Here's the details...

Both dogs are black with white marking under their bellys. Both are the same age 6 - 7 weeks old. Both dogs are also male.

We picked out the dog on Saturday, filled out all the paperwork, payed and everything. The shelter said that the dog needed to be fixed and I could pick him up on Wednesday (yesturday). With 4 days passing by, I really didn't remember exactly what the dog looked like. After all, they look so close!!! I did notice that this one was a little bigger. I even double checked with the shelter by asking, "this is the pit bull mix from the litter of 3 right? " they answered yes it is". I said, wow he sure grew fast and took him home.

Not sure what to do? I told the shelter i needed to sleep on it.

Oh yeah, the litter was 8 weeks old, not 6 - 7. Their mother was put down for eating/killing sheep .

Hmm.. I see what you mean now.
I'm not really sure about the legal guidelines, but I think you should keep him.
You're attached to him by now anyways.
I'm sure everyone else can give you much better advice, sorry!

Too funny. I just got off the phone with the adoption center... the owners of the dog we orignially adopted love him and want to keep him too.

So all is good. The adoption agency just has to swap all the paperwork.

The dog we have is a Black Lab :roll: Looks like I'm going to have to find another forum.
