Hello nice people.

Postby PineysMom » Wed Jan 25, 2006 3:03 pm

I just joined this forum. I had a pit bull for 12 and a half years. He died three years ago. His name was Malik and he was the best dog ever and he has spoiled me for all other breeds. I'm finally ready to get another dog and my husband and I are visiting shelters every weekend. So far we haven't found one we like enough to bring home (except the one that had been dibsed a DAY before we turned in our application, dammit).

I volunteer at a local shelter on weekends.

I don't know nearly as much about the breed as you guys obviously do--I know nothing, for instance, about training performance/working dogs or about famous bloodlines or anything like that. I just love the pit bull personality. But I look forward to learning from y'all.

Hello! I'm sure we'll all learn from each other here (I'm new to this as well). Good luck in your search for a pup!

Thanks.

Here's a picture of the one we want and can't have:

Is that not the cutest puppy you have ever seen in your life? (I mean, besides yours, of course.)

Welcome! There is a great Rescue/Adoption section here. I'm sure someone can try to lead you on the path to a pit bull rescue in your area. Good luck with finding the pup of your dreams!

Such a look on her face! Makes me want to squish it right up, lol! I am pup-less at the moment, but will adopt something or other in the next year or so...

Thanks. I've already been dealing with all the rescues/shelters around here. We're very picky! Most of the time I like a dog that my husband doesn't like or vice-versa. I'm sure we'll find our One True Dog soon, though.

Check out the chicagoland bully breed organization.
They do have litters of pups right now and I guess they routinely get them in. They are VERY friendly to work with also.

I have met those CBBR puppies! They are incredibly cute. But we want a male, and one of them was too big, I mean HUGE, and one of them was really really skittish and shy.

So what are you truly looking for in a pup then?
Describe your 'perfect pup' to me.

We don't have a huge list of criteria. We were looking at adults until recently, when that puppy pictured upthread got us so excited about raising a youngster together that we went out and bought a bunch of puppy supplies and got the house ready. (We are dorks.) So now we're kind of really into adopting a baby. (I've raised dogs from puppyhood all my life; my husband has never even had a goldfish.) We probaby want a male, one that isn't too big or too furry (which is why we rejected an adorable little boy last week who had a LOT of black lab in him), who's friendly, who likes to be held and cuddled, isn't shy or scared of people, seems healthy and happy, doesn't mind having his head, eyes, teeth or feet examined, who isn't too hyper or too passive. That's not unreasonable to want in a puppy, is it?[/quote]

Not really. We just adopted an 11 week old puppy earlier this month.
I think you might have a problem with the not too hyper lol I haven't met too many mellow pups.
Is Chicagolandbully breed rescue working with you to find that perfect pup? I talked to Cindy when we were looking to adopt, and she was very helpfull as far as finding one goes (even though we ended up adopting one a little closer, as we're in Wisconsin).

Oh, I don't mean mellow mellow. Just able to mellow out after playing for a while. The problem is I like them more playful and my husband likes them more mellow, so we need to find a happy medium.

I didn't realize this was an option! I should get in touch with them again.
