Hello...just found this board!

Postby The Red Queen » Sun Jun 03, 2007 8:44 pm

My name is Erin, and I am the new owner of a (perhaps?) pit mix. I am an avowed Australian shepherd lover (don't hold that against me...I love bully breeds too!), who just happened to have a little brown dog fall into my lap.

I volunteer with an organization that trains Assistance Dogs (Service and Hearing). I am in charge of bringing puppies into the program...which are usually sporting breeds or herding breeds (think, labs, goldens, corgis, etc). I wanted to get some more mixes and rescues into the program this year. A friend from another forum found a little brown dog through unforeseen circumstances. He took his dogs into their daycare one morning, and there was a little pup sitting on the counter (this was two weeks after walking in and finding two lab pups on the counter that had been pulled out of a dumpster-he found homes for them). A crack addict had wandered in asking if they had seen a puppy. They told him to get out (since he had just stolen $200 from a donation jar on the counter a few days prior)...and just ignored his plea. About an hour later, they went outside and found the pup on the sidewalk. Handed him to my friend to find a home for him. I emailed him and asked him to donate him to the program as an Asst. Dog.

So Score came to me to grow up and be a Service Dog. The thing is, he's growing up awfully "Bully" for our trainers' taste. Everyone loves him, and thinks he's great...but we're not sure we want to make our client's lives harder by giving them a bully SD when we are based in a county with BSL (where police seize anything with rose ears, square muzzle, etc...I'm sure you get the picture).

He's going to stay with me and be my boy for ever and ever. He's getting neutered next week, and officially leaves the program and becomes MINE! His new career path includes flyball, therapy, agility, carting (and hopefully weight pulling) and frisbee...or whatever he prefers to do!

Score is 16 weeks old this week, and is such a good puppy. :) He and I have been clicker training, and he's got sit and down and paws-up on command. I tell everyone that he's Aussie-smart, because he keeps up with the Aussies...no problem there!

The other dogs in the house (who have taken him under their wings...have just made a spot in the pack for him) are-
Ripley U Better Believe It CGC, FM, Therapy Dog(Ripley) 10 yo M red bi Aussie
Herart's Demon Lover FDGCh, Therapy Dog (Xander) 6 yo M red tri Aussie
Herart's Serenity Companion FMCh (Inara) 4 yo F red merle Aussie
Herart's Once Was Lost FM, Therapy Dog, Service Dog (Sawyer) 2 yo M red tri Aussie

All are rescues!

The other critters:
Princess Thorn of Barrelhaven-DLH tortoiseshell cat
Beatrix Kiddo-black/red American guinea pig
Peyton-black/brown American guinea pig
Andromeda, Lemon & Miss Moneypenny-female rats
InBrine & Costello-male rats

It's a full house...and we often have more than just our dogs (my boyfriend lives with me...and Sawyer is his SD)...as we board dogs in our house too...so right now I've got our five dogs, plus one boarding dog (labradoodle) and an Asst. Dog puppy-in-training (golden retriever). Everyone gets along and has a great time though. :)

Here's a link to our flyball team's site...flyball is the main hobby/love in our lives...I am captain of the Two-Lane Highway flyball team, and run all four Aussies on the team. Score is in training right now. We do have an AmStaff on our team that runs...she's really fast!

And since I know the "rules" of forums (I run an Aussie board)...here are some pics of Score pup...

One of my favorites...his first day here (already learning that sit means treats happen!) 9 weeks old, and soooo cute!

Welcome! Score is a beautiful puppy. It's a shame he didn't work out as a service dog but it's to your benefit! Love the pics.
