I can't take this anymore....

Postby Siberian » Fri Oct 31, 2008 12:14 pm

I am chronically sleep deprived because of my.....beloved....Sheba. :po:

She likes to sleep on her pillow, and needs to be covered with blanket before we go to bed. Since she has no body fat and practically no fur, she gets cold easily. So, in the middle of the night, she will turn around in her bed, and get out from under the blanket.

Instead of trying to get back in, QUIETLY!!, she will come over to our bed and whine until one of us gets up and cover her. She will also go from one side of the bed to another and whine into mine and husbands ears in turns, just to guarantee that someone does wake up and cover her...

I am so tired of interrupted sleep, it is not even funny. I also feel very bad fro my husband, because he has to get up at 4 AM as it is.

I have tried everything: PJ's (she gets out of them), coats (they get a lot of static and she is crackling and making sparks with every move), I bought her a doggie heating blanket to lay on - she still woke me up tonight to cover her. I added a tie-down next to her bed, so she won't walk up to us - she will whine louder from her bed, to make sure we hear her.

Seriously, I want to pull my hair out. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to have a good night sleep?

Maybe I should make her fat, so she can retain body heat....Or feed her hoodia, so her body heat would rise....

Let her sleep on your bed so you don't have to get up!

In the winter, I cover Ruca's crate with a blanket to keep the heat in but she has no blanket inside the crate.

You can try these burrow beds:

She won't stay entire night with us. Sometimes she will fall asleep with us, but in the middle of the night she will go back to her bad, and sit there whining until I get up and cover her.

I would love to, but they all are synthetic! The first time I saw my dog "sparkling" in the night, it was really freaky. Do you know of any sweater that is cotton?

What about crating her at night?

My dog has a very similar annoying habit but if I crate him at night he gives up. After a couple of nights, I can leave the door open and he'll make himself comfortable wherever and it takes a couple of weeks for him to get back into full late-night begging form. Then I just crate him again and he knocks it off again... the cycle is ongoing.

Just a thought...

Yeah, somehow their normally charming and cute faces just don't make up for a 3 am wake-up call lol

Oscar was doing that last week - and he's the same way. He doesn't actually like to sleep with me, he apparently just likes to lie under the covers and kick me in the spleen until he's warm, and then get up and go someplace else to cool off, when the cycle can begin again.

No interest in the Zolawear?

She was weaned off the crate last year. And I am not putting that monstrocity back into my bedroom!

Ditto on the cute faces....This morning I had to fight my husband off her. He was trying to massage her neck....right under the chin...ya know :)

roflmao Sorry, I can't help but imagine her whining noises. I can't believe the heated blanket wasn't enough – she is waaay too much of a diva!

I can lend you my fleece sleeping bag liner until you find a more permanent solution – it closes up entirely so she can't get out unless she rips it. lol
