Buying Antler's (chew) locally?

Postby drzoid » Mon Dec 01, 2008 4:38 pm

I see plenty online, but do they sell these in stores?

I have yet to see any in stores around me, but then I am no where near you. I went to the expo in Jersey and one of the vendors were selling some there but they were teeny, tiny ones so I didn't bother to get any. Maybe some people from Texas will chime in here. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Where should I start looking, "hunting" type stores?

I doubt you will find them there....

but....

What you may find is a hunter who would gladly sell some to you at a reasonable price.

If I were looking for antlers locally, I would START with hunters...

i found some in my local pet store (they sell all sorts of 'strange' stuff lol).

i was going to buy one, but decided against it because they seemed REALLY hard.

do they soften up when the dog chews them, or could they be potential tooth breakers like the big hard marrow bones?

i've never bought them before, so i don't know what they're like.

Find out where the good hunting is in your area and then you need to start walking around in the woods starting in late February and through the spring when dear shed their antlers. just my 2 cents

I found an add for deer processing. I called the guy, and asked if he ever ends up with the antlers and bones. He said that's all he ends up with lol
I guess he takes all the meat off of the bones, and most people just take that and leave all the other stuff behind. So I asked how much for the antlers, and big bones, he said I give him $10 per deer, and I get all of the good stuff off of that one deer. So I get 4 big bones and the antlers(if there are some)
Its hunting season, try locating a deer processing guy, make sure he takes the meat off of the bones, some just skin it, and cut it all up with the bones.
good luck

I always feel hinky getting antlers, and they don't sell them at pet shops here.

If someone wants to sell an antler, or part of an antler, for Booker to try out, well, shoot me a PM with an asking price.

Dang. A place near here wants $25 per antler, and I'm not able to pay that for something Oscar may or may not like.

What's a good site to buy them off of? I was going to order off of http://www.petexpertise.com/dog-toys/an ... _rewrite=1 but I guess I missed the sale they had and now they are out of stock.

I took Paige to a sho-n-go on Sat at a training center and bought the dogs some antlers for Christmas presents. They told me they are hard, but they can only gnaw on them, since it is for Christmas, I haven't given them yet so don't know how that will go?>
They are not a full rack, but are sold by lengths
I got one of each,
12 inch was around $12.95
6 inche was $4.95
on package it says:

no odor/residue-durable, long lasting naturally nutritious with calcium and minerals-fresh-safe
Dos NOT splinter-no chemiclas-no preservatives
sizes are SM, Md, LG, XL

Wow thanks! That's not too far from me, I'll stop by after finals this week and try one out since they are pretty cheap.

I will by the end of the week, if not this weekend for sure. I did a quick Google search on these and some were saying these are similar to the Antlerz brand but a lot better processed.
