Making and Selling Break Sticks?

Postby Muttkip » Wed Nov 10, 2010 3:42 pm

So I was wondering if my fiancee was to make and sell break sticks would any of you guys be interested?

He hand carves them from wood and does good quality work. He's made me a couple and I think they work awesome and they look nice.

He's wanting to make them and sell them for 10 dollars plus shipping.

I'll post some pictures of a break stick he made me later.

But I was wondering would you be interested at all?

Personally I wouldn't. If I do carry a break stick it is a tent stake, due to the fact that it can be considered 'dog fighting paraphernalia'.

You will also want to conciser taking out insurance if you are going to be selling them.....

I would be interested in seeing some pics...I have some here now, but I would like some more to hang in the kitchen, and one on the porch.

I would also love to see a picture. Does he do any decorative work?

What kinda tent stake? Like on of those plastic yellow ones?

I'd like to see some pics of the breaking sticks.

Yes, they are plastic. Orange and I think they are called military tent stakes?

I will admit the plastic ones that I have I like, because you can sanitize them...however one can never have too many break sticks.

For $10 I'd buy a couple, especially if he sold them at shows.

The ones we get from obrein's are nylon and about 7 bucks a piece. But they are a little bulky for carrying on walks. So if these were more petite but worked just as well we would consider picking up a set.

x2

I carry the obriens one on walks and they are rather large (although quite well made and not tooth-cracking hard!) I wouldn't mind having a smaller one for walking with.

Hopefully I'll never have to use one.

This is one he's currently working on.

It's still a work in progress, he uses very thick and strong wood he finds and then works his magic.

the finish could be better and the handle also, he'll improve over time. Not bad though, I'm sure they'd do their job and I'd reconsider the price by a few dollars

I have often considered getting a break stick, I've never had one and have had my hand fractured breaking up a dog fight cuz I put my hands in their mouths.

I like the idea of hand made stuff and each piece being unique in that regard.
