i have thought to made new one from real firehose... would that be more long-lasting?? tell me if you have good ideas for that...

I've used towels, toys, hides but the thing that lasts the longest are popped basketballs ( I buy them cheap at yard sales)

I've used a small tire, like the kind that goes a cart, and it lasted a long time. Cowhides, hemp rope.

I use cowhides, from Stillwater Kennel supply, just drill a hole in the middle and attach it to the rope, if you take it down and let it dry after each use it lasts a long time (I still have all 6, using one on the flirtpole and one on the springpole) it does get nasty so make sure where you store it to dry its not ganna get in the way were your ganna have to mess with it till you need it again

Punch a hole in it, thread the rope through and tie a few knots.

Question: For those of you who use those cow hides. They are salt cured. Do you wash the salt off? Soak the hide? All that salt can't be good for the dog to be sucking on.

I wash the salt off, and then soak them a bit to make them more pliable to punch a hole in.

Ditto! Although mine wasn't crusted with salt when I got them. Perhaps the 'previous' owner (I bought them from a member on another forum who's dog didn't like them) had already washed them too.

I have to keep the cowhides locked away when we aren't playing with them because Gypsy really, REALLy wants to eat them.

I DRILL a hole in mine while its dry (SUPER EASY with a regular drill like for drilling into wood and such) I then thread it, I leave the salt on, but I don't give treats much at all (probably less than 1 a week) so I don't feel its an issue.
