Seatbelts or car tie downs

Postby pitbullgirlbc » Tue Feb 22, 2011 4:54 pm

Hey leash makers or anyone else.

Is there anything for big dogs that can be made or is already out there to tie them down in the car? My dog will not stand being crated so i cannot put him in a crate in the back and need something to tie him down for safety. I have heard way too many stories about dogs getting away after a crash or being injured or killed in a crash.

Need suggestions or is someone can even make something that would be neat. It needs to be long enough so he can still stand up and look out the window. All the harnesses we tried on are way too small or just don't fit properly so looking for another alternative.

i use a cdpits harness and a batzibelt (www.batzi.com) to attach it to the seatbelt.

Instead of a tie down, I'd find a proper fitting harness. Last winter, i had my female secured with a leash like thing that clicked into the seat belt. When we were in a crash, she flew around the car and ended up with fatal injuries.

I ordered harnesses from Missy V...still waiting for them to ship as they are custom jobs but her work is supposed to be top notch. I had started a thread on harnesses/ seatbelts in equipment a couple months ago.. I'm sure its searchable.. There were lots of good products listed there as well
It was titled "car harness?"

There are a few good makers of dog car harnesses. I have a Ruff Rider Roadie harness that is very nice and very strong.

Another good brand is the Bergan dog car harness --

WalMart carries one that says ASPCA on it but is supposedly made by Bergan and looks to be exactly the same. It costs about $20.

There is also a web site for a Pet Safety Durability Test --

(edited to add a link to the WalMart harness)

I have a harness for Peanut. It's supposed to attach to the seatbelt but she keeps getting out of it. I got a zipline for her but the last time she was on it she somehow unhooked it. I swear she's really not that smart.
