Extra tall walk-through baby gate on sale

Postby BabyReba » Sun Feb 27, 2011 7:32 pm

I generally don't shop at Wal-Mart, but I was looking for a sturdy babygate, and a while back someone recommended the one at the link below ... generally sturdy gates are super-expensive, this one is on one of those price rollback things, for $47. I just ordered one, thought I'd share the info in case anyone's been shopping around for one!

I almost bought one before, but the locking system kinda worried me. The fact that it shuts itself sounds good, but here it is important that gates also stay shut. Erin, can you tell me what you think of it, once you get it?

sure ... it should arrive by march 7. i remember that jtalt had one, and i saw it when i was at her house way back when, and it seemed secure then.

i also can't have a gate that would pop open or not shut securely, so that'd be a big issue for me as well. i had hoped to find one in person at the store, but none of the walmarts i visited had them in stock. so we'll see when it gets here.

Oh man, I wish I could get my hands on one of those. I've been looking for an affordable replacement for the baby gate I have now.

Yup those are my gates ! I have to say I paid more then $47 for mine and that doesnt make me happy.

I can say my gates have been put through the ringer and I have only had it pop open on me once when a dog hit it going after another and I am pretty sure I didnt latch it all the way on my way through. I do have a storm phobic foster that can rip it off the wall when it is not TIGHTLY secure but he is insane crazy with SA during storms. It also is put up with two extensions which weakens it a little. I do not have them mounted with the screws, I just use the pressure mounts.

I can say they do not swing shut and latch when they are screwed in tight like I have them to prevent popping open when hit full force by one of the dogs. They have to stay more loose then I like for that function to work.

I have had them for almost 3 yrs now and they have been used and abused and I dont know of a baby gate that could withstand more.

Odd question - can you tell me how far apart the rungs are? Three inches? Four inches?

Thanks for your feedback, Jtalt. May I ask why you don't screw them into a stud with anchors? I think that it adds extra safety so I do it with mine, even though holes are forbidden in a military housing (ha! whatever). The extensions make them less sturdy in my opinion as well.

That's a nice gate! But it looks like they just upped the price from $47 to $55....

Still, it is hard to find a tall gate like that.

Roscoe just jumps right over the gate we have, he can clear it without even touching it. Do you think that if I got one of these taller gates that he would try to jump over it and hurt himself?

My dogs would jump them if I didn't work with them to stay calm behind them ... or as calm as I can keep them behind them, that is. Doc could clear 40 inches in a heartbeat if he wanted to. So we need the control to keep him in his spot. And Button has easily cleared the shorter gates as well. For us, the gates keep the dogs from moving easily from room to room but they aren't foolproof, by any means. I would never rely on them to keep the dogs apart, and we always have 2 gates between rooms where the dogs are, when dogs are out. One in the doorway where one dog is, one in a doorway where another dog is, etc.
