I'd love to be your neighbor (insert sarcasm)! Oh wait...I'm surrounded by neighbors who don't pick up poop!

I tend to pick up every couple of days and then walk directly out to my bin for disposal. But My home isn't as hot as yours and we have grass. The only sue-fire system I can think of is to pick up everything on-demand, tie off in individual bags and then place the little bags in a bigger bag for disposal once a week.

We also get sweltering heat of 100 degrees + here too.

I put a tall kitchen bag in this big old flower pot on the side of the house. Like Adrianne, I pick up the dog poops using old grocery bags and put them in the flower pot. (Ughhh my back!) Trash day I dump the whole thing in the garbage.

It would be nice if dog poop magically turned into fertilizer. That way I could sprinkle it onto the flower beds.

Things are a bit better with the double bagging and shade spot for the trash bag for poop (when I remember it's there for trash day). It's still gross and I'm still picking up a lot of rock but it's working.

Also I'm starting to look for something that might be better than just water for washing down the rocks/deck when the dogs pee. Shamoo, the old lady, has taken to peeing right on the deck at the edge of the rocks and I think thats the culprit for the smell. It's not horrible but I don't want it getting to be a bad smell.

Any ideas?

Last... I looked at astroturf at home depot and lordy, it's more expensive than our carpet was. Of course we'll need less but still... Any places that anyone knows off hand that have better prices?

I use a bleach mixture in the kennels, it's a spray thing that attaches to the hose, and you set it on the amount you want....and after scooping, and removing the buckets, I spray them down. It works well. Without being too potent. Make sense? I bet Fransterdoo has some resource for astro turf.

At home we have a big yard for Peanut to go in. I was picking up every day and I had a grocery sack hanging on the fence away from all neighbors and once a week I'd double bag, tie it up and put it out in the garbage.

Last year when I had my achille's tendon surgery I couldn't. So DH started walking her more and picking up when she went. He bought a 5 gallon lidded plastic bucket at Lowes and we put a plastic bag in it and he puts the poop bags in there. We just take the whole outer bag, tie it and put it in the trash. We actually quit picking up the back yard since it's so hot and dry it dries up and crumbles in just a few days.

Where I'm dog sitting they have 4 dogs and with Peanut there are 5 pooping dogs. I pick up all day long - first thing in the morning and then every couple of hours after that. They have a small yard and I don't want them running thru that poop! They have a big pooper scooper and we leave the poop on it and just add more till it's full - usually 2-3 days. Then we put the poop into a plastic bag and then into the same kind of bucket we have at home. They keep the poop on the scooper because it lets it dry out so there is less humidity when it's in the sealed container.

I have tried all of the above, and a metal bucket works best with my pack (pitbull, dogo/american bulldog puppy, and a doberman pinscher) all rescue dogs = issues, my pitbull has a fixation on eating dog poop, so I am out there two or three times a day religiously picking it up before she gets to it.

Being from Texas, I undersand about the hot weather. I have found a simple metal 10lb bucket with metal lid, works perfect, I keep it outside right by the pooper scooper, I double up two scented small kitchen bags in it, and I toss the poop in there as I pick it up and then tie it up and throw the bag out with the garbage pick up weekly.

The perks to this bucket is:
- it is metal which makes it impermiable to smells when the lid is on
- it's heavy enough to not fly away, sturdy enough to not be detroyed by a chewing dog, even the puppy hasn't been able to get into it
- inexpensive

best of luck

We live in a row-house complex, so I dispose 2 different ways. There are a few poop stations with bags & a receptacle in our neighborhood, and if I'm near one of those and Tink goes, I'll bag it & toss in the receptacle. If we happen to be up near the house, where there are no receptacles, I'll use a plastic grocery bag & just toss it in the trash. I would like to have a separate can for the waste, but there are strict rules in the community about stuff left outside.
