Cold weather gear?

I'm picking up my dog today and was wondering what all I should get for clothes for her if anything. It gets really cold up here, -40 occansionally and -10 is going to be normal. I don't want her to freeze her little feet off or anything on walks. We won't be walking on the really cold days but there will still be snow and ice to deal with for several months. Thanks, Tiffany

My dogs wearthese coats most of the winter and Muttluks when it gets really cold or they've recently salted the roads.

Do those muttluks really stay on? What size did you order? I am thinking a small.

Those coats are great and look like they fit perfectly.

Ella wears a Fido fleece coat, but I'm going to look into a fully body coat this year for her.
Ella also has muttluks.

They do stay on, but you just have to make sure you fasten them REAL well.

I am curious too, what size to get Kira aka miss prissy-pants-I-dont-like-the-cold-and-wet
she's pretty small, just 35 lbs at 8 mos

I think Muttluks have a size chart you can print out on their website.

My only complaint about them is that the positioning of the strap can rub against dew claws in the front depending on what size your dog wears.

Our solution was to get one set on medium sized boots, and one set of large. We put the large boots on the front paws of each dog so that the strap is higher up and doesn't bother the dewclaws and use the medium for the back paws.

Emma wears rain gear and has two winter jackets. She will NOT let me put the booties on her, so we have to constantly check her feet in the winter.

Ditto on the Muttluks; they work very well as long as you stick to shoveled areas. When hiking or walking through snow it gets trapped down in the cuff area; which them melts and flows down into the "glove". Frozen pup toes; well not frozen just really cold and wet.

I have mediums. 62lbs and 69 lbs.

so glad to see this thread here- Molly and I are training for a marathon and we'll be running through the Chicago winter.

Has anyone had luck with running in those booties? Can they stand a good trot for an hour or two?
Also, any tips for how thick a coat for running? Molly gets really warm in this 60-80 degree weather while running, I'm not sure she'll need the chilly dog coat even at 0 degrees, or will she?

Now dont everyone pick on me when I say this to much. That being said I have running hounds also that we run mostly in the winter in deep snow and ice. Take Pam cooking spray and spray your dogs feet and the lower part of their legs and snow and ice will never stick to them. Plus when you get home your dog can clean themselves off without worring about toxic chemicals. Just another option
