The Kegger of Dog Sports (Flyball!)

Postby JuneBug421 » Tue Oct 04, 2011 8:03 pm

Hi! I'm new here and have been exploring the forum. I'm amazed to see how many people and their dogs participate in (and have even heard of) flyball! Tell me about your flyball experience!

Do you compete in NAFA or U-Fli (or some other group I don't know about)?
What team do you run with?
When did your dog compete in his/her first tournament?
What titles has your dog earned and what is his/her personal best time?
Pictures and videos are bonus! :-)

I'll start!
NAFA, region 5.
My team is Hot Rod Hounds.
June ran in her first tournament in August 2010.
This summer she earned her FDCh-S and runs a personal best of 4.7 seconds.
I included the following pics in my intro post, but they're some of my faves.

I play with my Border Collie :D

We're NAFA, Region 15
We run with Jet Set
Steve ran in his first tournament in April 2010. He had only been training for four months at that point :wow Unfortunately, he got injured shortly after that and had to be pulled until November. He came back fine with no continuing issues. (Thank goodness!!)
Steve is up to his FM.
His personal best is 3.953 in start. He's a pretty consistent 4.0 dog running start (we run other positions so rarely that I suck horrendously at passing- his best time in the pack was a 4.2).

This is us starting at CanAm yesterday! :D (crappy cell phone photo but whatevs!)

Hi there!

We run in U-Fli. We've run with two teams and currently are training with a third but as independents. Arnold started a couple years ago and Backup has not yet debuted. I also used to run a couple bullies and a border collie on my old teams.

Arnold has his FT but we have retired him. His best time was a only a 5.2 but he always had a crowd because of how funny he was when he ran. hehehe

Arnold running at his last tournament when he got his PB. We may still run him in singles occasionally but doubtfully. He's pretty content holding down the couch at it is.

I don't have any photos of Backup running that I know of but...

:) I hope to debut him early next year. He's almost perfect and I think the help of this new team will totally speed up the process!

We've all U-Fli now. Used to compete in NAFA when it was local but not since July of last year. (There's only 2 sanctioning bodies in the US/Canada for flyball)

We run as independents right now. Though we have a fabulous lab coming up and so hope to have a four dog team sooner rather than later. Looking towards a spring singles debut with her. We mostly run with our friends from LA. But this weekend we're running with friends from central california and a couple of Danish-Swedish Farm Dogs owned by a friend in San Diego.

Franny started in 2007 as a 4 year old. So did Hank but he was a year.

Both got their FM in NAFA before we stopped. They both have their Top Flight Expert Plaque (20,000 points).
Hank pulled out a 4.2 something in start last month. Franny is a high 4.7.

All of these photos were taken in Las Vegas last month. This was the race where Franny got her 20,000th point and are courtesy of Stephanie Minnella. These are just the raw images too!

Here's both of them waiting to race. Hank and I in start - my wife and Frances in 2nd.

Hiya.

Our team is called Unorthodogs. We're a small team in the Seattle area.
Sadie made her debut last April 2011.
So far her best time is 5.2 seconds.
Her usual running position is 3rd or anchor.
Most of the tourneys up here are NAFA though we go to some UFLI tourneys as well.
Sadie hasn't been racing long and she is race ready but NOT race steady. She goofs up now and then and isn't running full time. She has earned her FD and FDx title.
In a month we'll be traveling to St Louis for UFLI fun - Sadie will be running on an all SBT team.

Um, you have Franny's long lost older sister in your house right now. Sure you want another?

awesome shots all
But my favorite is that first one of hank! That smile is worth 100000000 dollars!

We play with the "green"team - Utah Tail Blazers. Mostly U-FLI.

Started with Jake, my lab mix. Crazy for flyball. Hoping this weekend to earn his 20K
I also run a BC named Hannah. Squeeky - lol (she is not owned by me - just loved and ran by me)
Have another dog that is making her debut ,but my BF daughter runs her.

I don't have any available photos/videos readily available. :-(

I have a question, and I hope this isn't off topic, I don't know anything about flyball  .

Why do some of you wear the wraps on the dogs legs?

I want to congratulation AKAspeddero (aka Ann) for an amazing tournament this weekend. Both of her dogs did great, one earning their first milestone plaque for 20,000 racing points and the other, who overcame a ton, to run singles successfully both days!

They can slid either going into the box or coming into their reward so it protects the stopper pads and then the feet in general. I use PowerFlex or CoFlex for Hank. With those products, we like to cut them off post-race and be able to examine where he is wearing off the wrap.

In case it wasn't clear from FransterDoo's post, when they slide it can rip their pads. Ouchy painful.

Sadie isn't fast enough to need them lol

I had been using PowerFlex but bought a case of CoFlex through work because it was quicker and cheaper. He burns through his back wraps in less than five heats with the CoFlex! It's awful! There's nothing I've struggled with in flyball like I've struggled with Steve's back feet.

Have you tried athletic tape in the spots he really burns through? Plus it's a super cute look!! Hank will burn through Co=Flex on newer mats and then we have to super wrap.

Poor Steve. Poor you too. Do soft feet run in his line? All the borderstaffies i know from Connie have soft feet.
