Are pecans bad?

We have a Pecan tree in the backyard of the new house..I know walnuts can be bad so is it the same for pecans??

Hmm I guess no one knows! LOL I can't find anything definitive on google either! Some say yes, some say no go.............hmm!

Not sure about pecan trees...

but Veronica is a huge fan of the occassional Planters pecan straight from the tin...and she ain't dead yet. :))

(Don't get me wrong, she could lose a pound or two...but other than that the occassional pecan agrees with her just fine.)

I think Macadamias are the ones you need to worry about, or so I've heard/read.

The pecan meat is okay, but the shells have tanin (or something) that's bad for them. Altho I would think it would take quite a lot to do any damage. I used to have several pecan trees in the yard and the dogs always ate them, shells and all. But they usually weren't outside long enough to eat that many.

I'd just watch how many he noms and be carefull about the shells, I've heard bad things about nut shells before
