Thoughts on the better canned foods out there ???What 2 buy

Postby Brad-and-Brodix » Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:22 am

Brodix is now eating TOTW, but he has always HAD to have some sort of canned food or something mixed with his kibble to get him to eat. Then he seems to like what he's eating. :crybaby:
Anyway, whats everyones opinion on what canned foods are the best ? I know that none are great. Our vet says his opinion is everything with a pulltop is about the same quality, their just selling the cans. Don't know if this is true or not ?
Thanks

I really like the Wellness cans that are 95% of the main ingredient. I also used the Nature's Variety canned. They offer venison, lamb, rabbit, fish, etc...If I can't do raw for meal I'll split a can for my dogs.

We add a tablespoon or two of Merrick canned – really high quality, human grade ingredients. There are many "flavors" to choose from but the labels are really easy to read in case there are certain ingredients you are trying to avoid:

How is Brodix doing on the TOTW?

He's doing good so far 8) We're still on the first 30lb bag though. He's a real allergic fellow so I have my fingers crossed.

being in the dog supplies business from what I carry and from personal use I would say Canine Caviar, Tripett, Before grain, Addiction (hard to find but well worth it).

Never heard of any or those brands
Where are you located ? Seems there isn't as much to choose from here. We're in S. Carolina :frown:

Evo is also 95%

Before Grain has canned foods that are 100% one ingredient (ie, 100% chicken, 100% buffalo, 100% tripe, etc) which I wouldn't recommend as a base of a meal, but as a teaser to get him to eat kibble I would actually strongly recommend, as it's easy to keep an eye on the ingredients.

I use canned green tripe from solid gold, and I also have some solid gold formula in the purple can, can't think of the name off hand, and some merrick cans, and wellness puppy formula can. All are great foods, I just add maybe a heaping teaspoon in, and they eat it all up.

I feed raw but everyonce in a while for a treat I'll give Lila can of Merrick with the whole chicken wings or thighs. They pressure cook it in a way that the bone can actually be eaten. I checked and the bone is like mush so it's completely safe. She loves it! That's be great to mix in with his food. Very good quality for a commercial food.
