Sick with worry, please pray for Tucker....

Postby jazminesgranny » Sat Apr 25, 2009 1:34 pm

Tucker my "snoodle" collapsed this morning he's not even 1 yet... rushed him to the Vet.. had a 106 fever (the vet took it 2x cause she couldnt believe it)...blood in his urine, I know this cause when I picked him up he pee'd on me...... lathargic by the time he got to the vet... we are now waiting... he also was breathing harder than normal... his lungs sound bad she said... gums were gray... I remember when my mom's poodle died... and the gray gums...

I don't get how a dog who appeared perfectly health yesterday up until bed time took such a drastic downhill crash in such a short time.... I am so freaking sick with worry....l'm wondering was he showing signs I missed??? how did this happen... I am kicking myself I had to have missed something... everyone who knows me knows my dogs have the easy life.. are totally doted over.. I thought I was a good responsible dog mommy.... but I had to have missed something...

I just called the vets for an update.. the vet is with him and will call us back soon... in the mean time..... :crybaby:

:crybaby: I am so sorry  I hope things turn out to be ok. Don't beat yourself up, you did what you could and as soon as you noticed something you took him in. Our pets can't talk, and it sucks. I wish they could tell us when something wasn't right. :frown: Keep us updated, and you and him are in our prayers :pray

We heard from the vet and actually just got back from going in and saying goodnight to Tucker.... This is what they found...
He apparently has eaten some sort of metal object that is in his small intestines... the blood levels for metals or lead is extremely high so they sent the blood out to a lab...they suspect lead poisoning... his red blood cells count is 20 should be 35... his temp is still high at 104.8 but has dropped from 106...so thats good...he has a high level of blood in his urine.... which explains the red cell count.... so this is where we are at right now... waiting for the morning when the blood tests should be back... they will re xray to see if this object has moved... if the blood tests show what they suspect being the lead... and the object hasnt moved he will be having surgery in morning... they are concerned however that he might not make it through the night and have prepared us for this... when we said good night we got a little waggle from his tail but he couldnt raise his head... thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers... I will update here when I know more in the morning....
