Crusty nose?

Postby gggoosey » Sat May 02, 2009 7:32 pm

Here's a few pictures of my 6-week old little boy, Riley (don't worry, he's still with his momma & littermates )
I'm just wondering.. what's up with his nose? Is that normal?

Here's where his nose is normal:

..Annnd the other two, where you can see the crust on his and his sister's noses:

I've seen sick pet store puppies with something like that - though I don't know if it's a symptom or a result of something. When you get him - just vet him.

Watch of eye discharge. I've seen some pups with that that have parasites or it could be due to food - but yeah, vet him when you get him and youll know for sure. he is a cutie.

It could be dirt or just caked up dog food on his nose.
Or it could be an illness.
I'm curious, what mix are they, as the merle coloration is not the breed standard and indicates a mix?
This is a puppy you are purchasing?

I'm not sure if I'm going to get him yet. I posted my whole ordeal in the training forum. I asked the "breeder" via e-mail what his dad's lineage is crossed with, and she hasn't replied. She never claimed they were "rare" or "full bred," though.. Sooo :dunno:

Here's momma, though:

Dad looks more like an Alapaha Blue Blood bulldog than a 'pit bull'.

I was thinking that too - or maybe a mix of the Alpha and a Pit

Definitely mixy. I'd be a bit worried about the nose thing, it doesn't look healthy. Though it could just be dirt and food crud caked up on there, as mentioned.

The sire looks like an Alapaha, you should read up on their temperament, as they are different than APBT's.

Without trying to seem rude, I could think of better things to do with my money than give it to someone who names their dogs such as this guy/gal names theirs :(

I know you said you couldn't afford a puppy from a reputable breeder, but I would check around. $350 is a LOT for a mixed breed BYB pup. I think you might be surprised at what a well bred pup might go for to the right home.

I agree, and if it's still too expensive, find a rescue - usually altered, most rescues don't charge over $200 for a dog - often you can find puppies in rescue as well, who are purebred or at least no more mixy than those puppies.

I know. When she told me his name I was like uh.. Seriously? She said she didn't name him. Apparently, their friends were moving and didn't feel like taking him so the lady took him in.

I can only find general info about the Alapaha Blue Blood bulldog - Can anyone give me some information about their temperaments?

This would be a HUGE red flag for me. It means that she used this male as a stud because he was there, not because she put ANY thought into the pairing at all.
