ivermectin is cuasing Blue to throw up

Postby Bluepit316 » Thu Jun 11, 2009 12:12 am

Hey All, Blue has been on ivermectin for about a week now. Starting tonight we went to the 1.6 cc dose and he threw up his dinner about an hour later. Gave him dinner again, about .8cc ivermectin again. Still threw it all up.
Has anyone's dog done this?

Matthew

1.6cc of 1% Ivermectin? I'd be throwing up, too. You're poisoning your dog! Find a new vet. Yesterday.

in the mean time you might want to stop the regular food and hop on the bland diet IE rice and a bit of boiled chicken, his poor stomach must be horribly upset right now

he didnt throw up again last night, now today he wont eat. ill call "that" vet again and double check. yea, on the bottle is says start with 0.2cc increasing daily by.02 untill you reach 1.6cc then continue that daily. this is a reputable vet??? this has to be the 1% as it was 60.00 for the bottle. He's 65lbs

By this label you should not be anywhere near the 1.6cc dose.

Day 1: .2
Day 2: .2 + .02 = .22
Day 3: .22 + .02 = .24
Day 4: .24 + .02 = .26
Day 5: .26 + .02 = .28
Day 6: .28 + .02 = .3
Day 7: .3 + .02 = .32cc

So if he's been on it for a week you should only be up to .32cc. How did you jump to 1.6cc already?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

I talked to the vet, they said its not to much for what he's being treated for which is Demo Mange. They said stop for a couple days let his stomach get back to normal, then start with .1cc working up to 1.4cc.

I was reading about this last night and saw on another thread that someone was giving .3 cc per 10lbs of body weight. that would actually be 1.8cc.

:yucky: :frown: ?? dont know He's off it for now, ill make him somthing he will eat. ie Pizza..lol lol

You may need to keep him off of food for several hours to give his stomach a chance to rest, sometimes they get so raw inside that anything even water makes them throw up. I personally would wait at least five hours, then don't give him a bowl full but give him about as much as you can hold inside of a closed fist around a quarter of a cup, then after a couple hours if he doesn't throw it up you can give him a little more, you gotta go in baby steps when their insides are all raw and sore. Good luck, i'm sure he'll be feeling better soon
