Spay and neuter videos.

Postby BigBadPibbul » Sat Jun 13, 2009 9:06 pm

Hey guys I was curious and looked for a video showing a spay and neuter procedure and thought i would post them here so that anyone else interested could see how it's done and take the mystery out of getting your friends fixed.
For those that are squeemish... There is very little blood and though you can see the dog's reproductive organs it is not too bad to watch.

Spay part 1.

Spay part 2.

Neuter. * note * I tried to find one with the vet telling you what he was doing like the spay video but sadly could not, so please forgive the music.

My vets office performs speuter operations behind a window. You can watch the whole thing if you want. (fairly benign surgeries, both of them, dog is draped and it's quick, can't see a whole lot) They let me be there for Martin's cruciate repairs........now, THAT is a gnarley surgery, no window viewing for that.

I watched both of Pandora's patella surgeries from the window. Interesting.

never seen this done on a dog before, I used to help the local vet, Doc Taylor castrate bull calves, and let me tell you the way they do dogs is obviously more sophisticated then how we did the bull calves, lol...

Bull calves are simple:
"throw" the calf onto it's side
grab the testicular sack and trim the bottom 1/2 inch off (doc taylor preferred his pocket knife as a castration tool)
grab a testicle and tug it to "snap" the ligament
then cut the testicle cord with a knife
repeat again
then we sprayed the calf region with some purple stuff

exactly, you better hope you come out a heifer or you are born already a steer. I helped Doc Taylor do a horse once, that was not fun, the horse started to come out of sedation just as he was getting the second testicle finished.

that's some scary stuff with such big animals, scary with dogs too but the big stock animals have serious potential to do some nasty damage

Thanks for the vids.

Odd choice of music for the neuter vid...maybe Aerosmith's "Dude looks like a lady" might have been more suitable??
