A Weird smell?

Postby *Laura* » Wed Jun 17, 2009 1:34 pm

Earlier on today i noticed this funny smell an realised it was coming from Marnie and i found it was comin from her anal area. She has been scratchin her bum on the floor an we thought it was because she was due her worming tablets an she had worms (the guy we got her off said she as due them) so we gave her worming tablets but she stil itches an then before i smelt a weird like ''fishy'' smell comin from her bum. I am goin to take her to the vets but jsu wondering if any of u guys can give me a heads up as to what it could be? I'm thinkin of a swollen or infected anal gland? x

her anal glands need to be drained. your vet will do it it is really common and no big deal. You could do it yourself once the vet shows you how but it is really nasty and smelly!

I was thinking the same thing as Kaia09. I think some groomers will also do this too. I have never had to have it done but I hear its pretty nasty!

I've done it to a few dogs. The smell and the sight of what comes out can make you sick if you have a week stomach! lol

We went this morning an OMG! the stench was :yucky: :yucky: :yucky: even the vet nurse was like :yucky: pooey! lol.

I'm glad we got her sorted an i just hope that it doesnt do it often cos its uncomfortable for her, bless her, she was very good at the vets today an the vet loved her lol. We bought her anew collar cos her old one was fallen apart so we got her a nice pink one with princess written on it lol she is a proper diva she wont eat big things or chew unles u cut them up cos she jus doesn't like chewing! Which is a good thing cos atleast the sofa ect doesnt appeal to her lol.

does having to manually express anal glands happen more in female dogs rather than male dogs. Or is it pretty even across the board?
