Jack's in need of some well wishes

Postby Stormi » Tue Aug 25, 2009 5:06 pm

Jack has had an awful week. Last Thursday he got into a nasty fight with a neighborhood raccoon that ventured into our yard. He managed to come out of the whole ordeal with some minor body scratches and several scratches and small punctures to his face, although it was certainly quite the traumatic experiance for all involved. Here's the aftermath of that once I got him washed off:

I took him to the vet Friday morning to have him looked over, but he was certainly more emotionally jarred by the whole thing than he was physically hurt, thank goodness. We've been trying to let him lie low, and just take it easy for the past few days. Yesterday when I got home, he was acting a little bit more lethargic than usual. We went out for some exercise since I figured he could use it after a rather calm weekend, and he seems to be doing better after moving around a bit. I left to help coach a CGC prep class for a local bully breed group, and left Jack at home with the BF. I called when I was heading home, and he told me that Jack had been shaking as if he were cold, and crying a little bit, and just generally acting really not normal. When I got home I saw for myself that he was not a happy camper. He was laying on his side, couldn't even get up, shaking and tremoring like a leaf and wimpering in pain. We took him to the 24 hr emergency vet since at that hour all normal vet's offices were closed. Turns out that my BF had given him a couple of rib bones leftover from a meal on Sunday night in efforts to give Jack a special treat. Thankfully it doesn't look like anything has been punctured, but he's certainly having one hell of a time getting them out of his system. He's hopped up on pain meds and the poor thing was up wimpering all night long and didn't get to sleep until 6:30 this morning. He seems to be doing ok now, just resting mostly, but the poor guy has just had a terrible week!

Sending good thoughts your way and hoping he gets better soon.

I hate that feeling when your dog is acting mopey/sad and you dont know whats wrong, makes you feel so helpless.
