As you thought, head size is genetic. However, you can get larger cheek muscles. When Xanny was in good shape and worked in bitework a lot, she had some big fat cheeks.

Good answer.

APBTs are not supposed to have a huge head. The head should be in proper proportions to the body.

Here is a good link to help you understand better:

I think sometimes people forget newbies are often given misinformation and come here to learn. Don't always assume it is a troll.

Mya, my American Bully has a big head and it does make her very cute. That is not why I got her though. But, because of her big head and smooshed muzzle, she has a harder time breathing in hot weather. She gets tired easier than our dachshunds(who have longer muzzles).

And no, feeding them a certain type of bones or anything like that will not make their heads bigger. Head size is genetic. :)

I just preference I guess, like everyone see things different.
Someone might find something beautiful as others may not.
When I said give her the bones it was so it could gain some cheek muscles, not literally eating the bones.
So yeah, I will probably end up getting a american bully in a few years from now.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you are a guy. Size, of heads in particular, seem to be almost an obsession with many of the male gender. roflmao

Your opinion on whether or not it is beautiful doesn't matter. It isn't good for the dog to have a gigantic head and a short muzzle. There's a reason they weren't bred to look like that originally. It is useless and causes more harm than good. It is recently that the look came "into style" and if you do some research on how pit bulls are treated/seen/bred these days, you'll see there is darn good reason not to want your dog to have a "huge head"

And you can't build cheek muscles with bones, just like you can't make their jaws stronger or force them a well bred APBT to be squatty and wide. I'm sure you will find this forum to be very helpful while you learn about this breed we all love and protect. I'm sure you will join right up in our efforts as you learn more! :)

UMMM, I might have to beg to differ. You can strengthen and bulk up cheek/jaw muscles.

If you want a dog with a giant head, don't get anymore APBTs.

Just please have your dog spayed/neutered, take him/her to an obedience class and work on making him/her a good representative of our breed, one that can make us all proud.

THAT will be a beautiful thing... even more so then a big head. ;)
