I'm going to be sick.

Postby Libby » Thu Dec 03, 2009 5:34 pm

So, I took Gypsy into the vet today to have her hips and knees x-rayed, because she has been acting a little off for the last few weeks. Nothing major, just not quite herself.

I just got back from there. Her hip dysplasia is bad, her knees are bad...but worst of all, he thinks she has osteosarcoma.

When we were looking at the rads, I swear to God I saw spots when he told me that. I'm only holding myself together by a string.

He wants me to take her back in in six months for another radiograph, but isn't there any testing we can do to find out sooner?

I have a cd of the x-ray, but I can't get it to play on my computer so I will have to wait until Saturday when I go to my brothers.

I am so sorry to hear about Gypsy's bad hips and knees.

I really hope that she does not have bone cancer. Sending good thoughts for Gypsy and that everything will come out ok!

osteosarcoma metastasises REALLY early... if there is any question about osteosarcoma, see a specialist NOW! Do not wait the 6 months. Its rare to catch it early enough that there would not be metastasis to the lungs, but even if there is a 2% chance, why throw it away?

Bone biopsy is the best way to get a diagnosis, but this is best done by a specialist because the outside edges of the bone will often be cancer-free and come back as reactive bone... which means it could be cancer or it could be arthritis... a really gee whiz type anyuiswer thats frustrating.

Oh my. I can't imagine getting that news and told to come back so late. 6 months!?!?!?!?!?! Yikes!

Hey 2nd opinions were made for a reason. When we got a bad x-ray our vet sent us to a specialist just to make sure Jasmine was ok. Can you get the copy and sent it to a specialist?

Golly, you will be in our thoughts. :pray

Oh man, were keeping you in our thoughts over here. :pray

I would get a second opinion, for the sake of your dog and also there is no way I could wait 6 months to find out, that would drive me insane!

Don't wait. Get a second opinion. Go see a specialist.

Hugs

I'll pull a picture down & print it for Gremlin to put in her doggie shrine. She likes to have pictures of the dogs she includes in her prayers.

Oh wow Libby, I'm so sorry

I agree, please see a specialist if you can. I can't believe he expects you to wait 6 months with that on your mind!
