Lump on Sugar's leg ... Thoughts appreciated

Postby JoeBingo » Fri Mar 12, 2010 10:17 pm

Just today, I noticed a lump on Sugar's right hind leg just above her paw. It is pretty good size as you can see. I would appreciate any thoughts as to what it might be. Perhaps you have seen something like this before and have experience or something.

- Sugar does not pay any attention to it whatsoever
- It is not tender. Sugar does not mind at all if I gently squeeze the area or "handle" her leg
- It does not feel as though it is a cyst (soft, yielding, squishy)
- I don't see a "head" anywhere on it
- I feels like firm tissue
- It is slightly over 3/4 inch in diameter. I measured it, cause it LOOKS like an inch in diameter
- It sticks up "pretty good". It is a good sized lump.
- The area of enlargement is limited to the actual lump. There is no other swelling in the adjacent tissue
- In handling it, it feel firm and concentrated, it does not "fade" into surrounding tissue. The boundaries of the lump are as pictured
- Must have come up rather quickly, I just noticed it today

Thanks for opinions. I figure since it is not bothering her, I would wait a while and see what happens before I consider taking her to a vet to have it checked out.

No, get it checked out now. If it turns out to be something that needs taken off, and it grows AT ALL... it will be very difficult to remove and close the hole thats left behind.

There isn't a lot of extra skin on the legs, so lumps should be removed when they are marble size... vs. the softball size tumors we can take off necks/tummies and such without major issues.

The vet is closed on the weekend. Would it be okay to wait until Monday?

Oh, lol. Yes, Monday should be fine unless you can see it growing right before your eyes (highly unlikely unless its a blood-blister etc.)...

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks, spammie  ... I'm sure it's nothing serious, maybe just some kind of bite or something :dunno:
I'm going to have Sugar checked out Monday.

Thanks Nickdawg !!! Really, she's acting just fine ... as if there's nothing there at all. She's not worried about and that's a good thing.

Happy thoughts for Sugar Booger to have just grown her own friend! :peace:

Ruadh has grown several; Bartholomew is on his back, Frederick the Literate is on his chest, and Bob is on his elbow. Bob is only a skin tag, hence the less formal name.

Good call on going Monday, though, always best to find out what the heck they are in case you need to act.

Sugar is a gorgeous girl! :inlove:

Good thoughts for it to be nothing to worry about.

My 12.5yo Springer is covered in lumps ... I honestly cannot even tell you how many times he's had surgery to remove them ... A LOT! He went in one time and had seven lumps removed (all turned out to be sebacious cysts or lipomas) and the vet discovered two that we hadn't even seen, only to have him come home and as I was doing warm-compresses I discovered another. RIght now, he has more areas WITH lumps than without. lol

(hope that helped to ease any anxieties I know you must be having)

Happy thoughts her as well, were hoping it's nothing too serious!
Either way, good call on getting it checked sooner than later - even if it's just a cyst, blood blister or bite, better that than cancer caught too late.

Oh my heart just dropped a mile. I hope it's nothing, and certainly hope it is nothing. My heart dog, Kale, had a few of those. Exactly like that.. left front.. I pray it is better for Sugar than it was for us! Go see your vet and have the thing removed. Sugar is lovely. Please don't wait too long... but realize I recently lost my boy and am prone to over reaction.
