I'm really glad that I just read this too! Sometimes bugs are a good thing.

Scritches to Ella!

not an official update, but an update:
The swelling has gone down very little since she's been on the prednisone.
She's on 20 mg twice daily. And while it's bloating her, and making her act like she is STARVING every 5 seconds, it hasn't done much to bring down the swelling.
It's come down some, but not a ton.
Instead of being the size of an oblong tennis ball, it's more the size of maybe an oblong golf ball.
She's been on it for a week this evening.

I'm going to probably call the vet today, and see what he thinks we should do.

Please do, pred is awful medication (even when it works) and if it's not helping, get her off it.

OK, let me see if I can remember what the vet said:

He aspirated her swollen area again (the lymph node).
He was able to actually get some liquid this time.
But it's still so in mass form, that while it's obviously infection, we need to break it up more, so we are weaning her off prednisone over the course of the next 3-4 days.
We are to finish up the amoxicillin (we have two pills left), and he put her on simplicef which is a stronger antibiotic.
We are to put warm compresses on her 3 times a day, and call him on Saturday to inform him of how she is doing so far.

If it was mainly liquid right now, he said he could drain it. But he said right now, if he were to open it up, it would just be a large mass. And if the swelling doesn't come down (we cannot get it broken up into liquid form) then we'll have to remove that lymph node.

I hope that all sounds correct because I believe that is the gist of what he said was going on.

And Ella is SUCH a trooper. He had to dig around with a needle in her lymph node when trying to aspirate it, and she just stood there, looked gently at him, and gave him a gently lick on the face.
AWWWW.
