front legs keep shaking

Postby pitXgsd » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:59 am

Hi I recently went and got a pitbull cross german shepherd. He is 11 weeks old. When he sits down his front legs start to shake, but he runs perfectly fine. he hasn't showed any signs of pain and there are no signs of external injury. Is this natural at this age or is something wrong.

I'd probably call my vet about that.

I would call the vet too.

What do you mean the front legs start to shake? Like is the wrist bent, and then the arm starts to shake?

Some dogs shake in excitement and anticipation, would it be something like that? is he super excited or nervous when you see this ?

I've seen this, we had a Dobie puppy that did that. His front legs were rather weak, after a case of parvo.
Rather like when you sit with your leg raised in such a way your leg shakes, dogs do this too. Usually a change of position (up to standing) helps.
He should outgrow it but in the meantime check with your vet, just in case.

I dont think its nervousness or excitement because it runs around and plays perfectly fine with me, but when it just sits down on its hind legs and has the front legs still up his front left legs starts to shake. He doesn't even seem to notice it. I am going to take it to the vet just to be on the safe side when i take it to get its second shots. I have already dewormed it once- how many times should i deworm it. and for how long?
thanks for the sugestions

I would ask your vet about his deworming

Both my 6 month pups do the same thing when they sit down, it seems to be very common with puppies

Have you taken your dog outside or on walks? You say he is only 11 weeks old.

I'm sure you know this, but just in case: Don't take your dog on walks or trips outside until you get it's 4 month rabies-parvo vaccinations. Parvo is lethal and the woman who runs the rescue I got my pit from knew several people who lost their puppies to parvo. Take your puppy to the vet for a check up and ask your vet about the deworming as well.

Although this could probably just be nothing, it's better safe than sorry when you're responsible for an animal's life. At least, that's the way I view it. My vet has actually cut me deals because we frequent too much (my husky has a lot of medical issues) and doesn't charge me for Eris' (my pit-shepherd mix) check ups.

My uncles 6 year old lab mix does this, when he sits one leg will bend slightly and shake. He has done it from puppy hood and has no health problems at all, gets yearly check ups and the vet never noticed anything wrong with him.
