:(

Postby Libby » Sun Feb 13, 2011 12:19 pm

Its just gotten to the point where I expect these things.

I found a 'lump' on Gypsy's right lion/hip area. I had actually noticed it several weeks ago, but its in the same area she was bitten by the spider, and her muscle there looks kind of off from the other side anyway, so I just assumed I was being crazy again.

Well, yesterday I was petting her all over and she turned in such a way that the lump poked out about a half inch, and was very obviously NOT normal. I prodded it a little and its very firm. She doesn't act like it hurts her, but I still had the Dr. look at it.

He thinks its probably a fatty tumor under the muscle, but he said to watch it for the next couple of weeks and if it gets bigger it needs to come off ASAP. He said it should probably come off anyway, and it was hard for me to not just say 'take it off now'.

I expect I'll have it removed within the month regardless of it growing or not. My only concern is that the last thing she had removed we had to use a local, because her kidneys were not well enough for full anesthesia. I will have a plood panel drawn up again before this time, but I'm worried they will still not be well.....

My poor girl. Its bad enough that she's been having these problems lately, I think its worse having a 'mom' that kinda seems to have hypochondria when it comes to doggy health.

Definitely keep an eye on it......I really didn't think fatty tumors were hard. I had a stage 2 removed off of Rex's front leg and he's doing well so keep your chin up and good luck

The Dr. said it might feel like that because its located under the muscle instead of just under the skin.

Everything in me is screaming to have it removed ASAP and I'm going to talk with him again about it on Tuesday to see if we can just take it out sometime next week. It will make me feel better.

The kidneys would have to be REALLY bad to make me shy off anesthesia... a balanced protocol with quality fluid support and blood pressure monitoring should prevent any hardships for the renal system, and with blood pressure monitoring you can abort the procedure if necessary.

 I know how you feel. I keep shaving spots on Isabeau, every time I think I feel anything abnormal. I'm super paranoid right now, but I guess I have reason to be. If it were me, I'd want it removed...and at least you'll be able to relax a little once it's off (if it is just a fatty tumor).

You can kind of see it in this picture of Gypsy.

Image

Its casting a huge shadow that makes it look a lot bigger than it is, I thinkthe angle has to be doing that. But still, it obviously not normal.

Sorry Libby :(

You and I could start a support group for Hypochondriac Dog Mothers. Buddy and I can certainly sympathize with you.

Hope it's nothing serious!
