Tess is sick

Postby Sarah » Sat Jun 04, 2011 8:44 am

:(

Bloody diarrhea and vomiting. Started a couple days ago, but she wasn't too bad at first, and acted normal, so I decided to watch her. Started her on a bland diet last night, since the diarrhea was getting worse. Got home from work this morning, and there was a large amount of diarrhea and vomit in her run. Poor baby, shut in with that. She didn't want her rice & chicken breakfast, and is now very subdued. I will take her in to my vet as soon as they open.

I think I'm going to cry. I had just got it to where Tully's treatment seemed like it would be affordable, and now this. This could be expensive, and I don't know where the money is going to come from. :crybaby:

Ick! That's so unfair and crappy and bad timing, I hope it's nothing serious, keep us updated on what the vet says. Get better Tess! I completely know how it feels to have a bunch of pets get sick all at once, it's stress out the wazoo and debt you don't even want to think about. I hope this won't be too costly for you.

Back from the vet. Tess, of course, perked up and acted almost normal there. Ate a dog biscuit the tech offered her (probably shouldn't have had it, but oh well)

She hasn't lost any weight and is not dehydrated; she is sensitive in her abdomen. We decided to treat symptomatically for now, so she had a shot of anti-nausea medicine, and will be on that, carafate to coat the stomach, metronidazole, and pepcid (OTC, and I already have it). Hopefully, she will perk up and heal on her own from whatever is irritating her gut. If not, we will have to go back and do some diagnostics.

Oh wow, what a rotten scary day... The Cerenia, Metronidazole, famotidine cocktail works like a charm though, fingers crossed she's right as rain tomorrow!

I hope this does the trick and you don't have to do anything more for her! Crossing my fingers for Tess.

I hope she's feeling better soon! Man, the vet bills just won't quit for you lately, eh?

Hopefully the meds will help and it was just a little bug or something!

Today she seems better! No vomiting or diarrhea in her run overnight, and she was eager for her breakfast. Maybe still a bit subdued, but she has been pretty sick. I am cautiously hopeful! I'm keeping her on the bland diet for today, and will keep up the meds for a few days at least. There was a lot of blood in her diarrhea yesterday.
