What Supplements do you use?

Postby Apbt4life » Wed Jun 15, 2011 10:02 am

Roxy and I love to be very active, i take her on long walks, she loves the spring pole, i train her daily, and i take her to the lake for hours to Dock Dive about 3x a week, she loves it more then me..Anyways im planning to get into other sports like lure coursing and weight pulling, with all these activities going on my friend who works his pits recommended i get her some supplements to keep her healthy and strong, supplements for her joints, and muscles to bulk her up a tad bit, I know you guys love to work your dogs too.. So i wanted to get some input, if you guys thought that was a good a idea or not, and if so what supplements do you guys use or recommend for muscles and joints. thanx 8)

A good high quality diet is all you need to "build muscle". Don't fall for those things like Bully Max. It might help if you are feeding crap food but not if you are feeding a good food.

With regard to her joints, I would suggest a supplement. Our youngest is on a more inexpensive human joint supplement. My 6 year old is taking glyco-flex 1 and my 7.5 year old is taking glyco-flex 2.

I also supplement with Co Q-10. Then I have a "cookie" that's salmon oil, coconut oil, alfalfa, blue-green algae, kelp and flax seed.

I use a joint supplement (Dasuquin for the Border Collie and GNC Ultra Mega Hip & Joint for the bulldogs) as well as a good fish oil supplement.

We do fish oil for everybody. Chino's going to be starting some joint supplements when I get paid next week to help with her wrist issues she's been having due to being a little lard dog.

Does anyone else use NuviPro? The regular supplement and/or the Joint?

Do you mean NuPro?

That one of those products whose ingredients I feed in other ways, so no.

Booker gets a fish oil supplement, a SAM-e supplement (either straight SAM-e or rotated with one that's a combo of SAM-e and milk thistle, Denamarin), and a joint supplement (Glyco-Flex II or Phycox, I have big packages of both that we are working through before I re-order).

I just ordered a supplement called Cell Advance 880. It is made by the same people that make the Glyco-Flex and it is an antioxidant supplement with Co Q10 and other ingredients.

Do you feed your dog twice a day?
Maybe adding another small meal will help? If she is LEAN and ripped, that's okay. If she is skinny with minimal muscle mass, or with her spinal processes visible in a relaxed standing pose, or more than two or so ribs visible while relaxed... well, then that's a different story.

Compare the caloric counts of food. Some foods have 350 calories per cup, some are more like 450+... some have a lot more fat and protein than others, too, even within the same "class" of upscale, high-end foods.
