Rescued a dog...told she was blue but looks brown
I rescued a female pittie, she was outside on a chain. She hardly was given water and food properly and was rarely checked on. The people who had known the owner told me she was a blue pit, her name is Deja Blue. But to me she looks like she is brown, or atleast has a brown tint to her coat. I will try to put up some pics as i get them taken. Its not really important but if there is something wrong with her coat i would like to know what to do for her. I have heard of rusting but not really sure about it or what to do or what it is. Any help would be great...thanks

I'm not sure what your question is... what is it you need help with?

Well, i guess I could have made it a lil more clear. I am trying to find out if it is possible for a blue to turn a brownish color being neglected in the sun, and if her coat can return to its former color and if there is anything i need to do....I need to post a pic of her.

Gray coated dogs look blue, brown, grey depending on the light, some are darker or lighter, does she have brindling? That would make her appear more brown as well, could just be a poor coat due to stress or food too though.

Really? Wow, I didn't think she was blue at all, she looks like a chocolate or something to me but I guess she could be a blue brindle...just never seen a blue like this. Like I said though, she has been neglected and left outside for months, so I am sure that could have tinted her hair a bit. Time will tell if the color changes at all now that she is being taken care of....

By the pics I'd say blue brindle. Check out this coat color thread

Re: Rescued a dog...told she was blue but looks brown
Some blue dogs have no blue fur at all.
The blue gene makes all the black skin and hair on a dog a gray color. Her nose will be gray instead of black.
Many blue dogs have brown/tan/reddish fur. My blue dog started out as all gray as a pup - then she gradually changed so that she's got quite a bit of brown in her coat. It's normal and isn't from sun bleaching.
She's not brindle like your pup - but she is blue, she's just blue seal instead of solid blue.
